There are many Hollywood locations besides Famous Players Lasky and Pickford Fairbanks. There are the Garden Court Apartments, building at Cahuenga and Hollywood Blvd., Hotel Hollywood, Police Station, and American Legion. Rudolph Valentino appears in THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE and CAMILLE, and Ramon Novarro appears in TRIFLING WOMEN. Many stars, Agnes Ayres, Jack Holt, Lois Wilson, James Kirkwood, Anna Q. Nillson, Carter de Haven, Mitchell Lewis, Victor Heerman, Owen Moore, Kathryn Macguire, June Mathis, Jane Novak, Dorothy Phillips, Jack Kerrigan, Vola Vale, Lloyd Hughes, Max Linder, Harry Rapf, Jack Warner, Wesley Barry, Milton sills, Walter Hiers. I believe the Lasky DeMille Barn can be seen behind Carter DeHaven. What are the posters behind Lloyd Hughes?

Max Linder Ends Long Retirement

PostThu Oct 25, 2012 1:20 pm

Another informative post.
I can't get the video to run- my laptop is one of those home built models from the 1960s-
but the "cast" info you've provided leaves both Maltin and the NZ folks in the dust.
At last, a new Max Linder film!!!!

JFK, your text is very hard to read. Could you possibly make it bigger for us old folks?

I paused it long enough to see it's for a Frank Mayo picture called Tracked to Earth.

Love that glimpse of the Robin Hood set at the rear of the Pickford-Fairbanks studio!

Look closely at the sequence where they're filming Viola Dana through the restaurant window and you can spot the camera crew's reflection in the glass.

Looks great, but once again, they kill the comedy dead by transferring it at 16 fps.

A direct link to Hollywood Snapshots.

Something I've noticed about the New Zealand
prints is their excellent retention of mid-tones
and highlights that are often faded on American prints.
It lends a sublime crispness to the viewing
experience.

Three things I learned while watching Hollywood
Snapshots:

Trade books could be reused by covering the last
number of the year with your thumb.

A dog could ride on a running board enclosed in a small
fence.

Wesley Barry was pigeon-toed.

Agreed. Can’t stand unreasonably slow transfers, even if they’re supposed to be a more “realistic” speed.

Re: Hollywood Snapshots 1922 Travelogue - Help?

PostMon Nov 05, 2012 9:44 pm

I would love to do a blog post identifying all of the buildings and landmarks appearing in this film, but am having a terrible time getting frame grabs, or even getting it to play.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Would some one be able to grab frames of the street scenes for me?

Thanks, John

I would hardly call this transfer "unreasonably slow." If in fact the film was transferred at 16fps, then I'd estimate it was shot at something like 12 fps. The action seems sufficiently enhanced in speed to me. There are sections that would have been only a blur at 18, 20, or 24 fps.

A 30 minute two-reeler not "unreasonably slow". This is from Bob Birchard, comedy specialist, who thinks the Selig 1914 version of THE SPOILERS is a peppy picture, if he stays awake through it.
