Harold Lloyd's World of Comedy Soundtrack

PostWed Jul 27, 2011 9:54 pm

I recently stumbled across this mp3 download reissue of Walter Scharf's score for the compilation film Harold Lloyd's World of Comedy: http://www.amazon.com/Harold-Lloyds-World-Of-Comedy/dp/B0052ZX5UU/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311823812&sr=301-1
So, is this worth getting? I remember that TCM played the Lloyd compilations several years ago, but I really don't remember much about the music from them except that there was sort of an awkward vocal song inserted into the Freshman (specifically the scene where Lloyd meets Jobyna Ralston).

If you don't have a copy of the film itself, it is available:

:) It was not Harold Lloyd's World Of Comedy at all, but rather THE FUNNY SIDE OF LIFE that contained all but about 12, minutes of THE FRESHMAN, Although there were some alternate takes, and some noteworthy footage removed. There was about 30 minutes of compilation footage as well from various films. I have had the Harold Lloyd's World Of Laughter LP, which has since been issued on CD, since the early 80's or even the late 70's. Side one is all music that Walter Scharf had composed for THE FRESHMAN and it is excellent. Side Two is music for WORLD OF COMEDY. Granted when I finally saw THE FUNNY SIDE OF LIFE, it was after I had already seen the new restoration and Robert Israel scored version. By contrast, I was somewhat taken aback by all the unnecessary pumped in sound effects. Also some of the Scharf's music started to sound a bit of the 1950's documentary side to me. On the other hand his scoring of The Fall Frolic and the Big Game is still superb.
