The silent First World War, made-in-Canada film Carry On, Sergeant! will get a musical treatment Nov. 9 at ByTowne Cinema. Made in 1928 before the advent of “talkies,” the black and white part-spy, part-love story will be accompanied by Mike Dubue of the Hilotrons and Mike Essoudry of Mike Essoudry Octet, who will play a score composed for the event. The screening is sponsored by the Canadian Cult Revue and will start at 7 p.m. The film (not to be confused with the British comedy of the same name) will be projected using Library and Archive Canada’s pristine 35-mm print from the 1990 restoration. Cost is $10 for non-ByTowne members, $7 for seniors, members and children.
