John Major – My Old Man, A Personal History of Music Hall

Former British Prime Minister John Major’s upbringing was far from conventional, his father a comedian and singer. Tom Major’s career in music hall began when he was just 21 and John Major – author of two previous bestsellers - uses his father’s story as a springboard for telling the history of the music hall from its origins in Elizabethan times through to its heyday in the 19th century and its eventual decline with the rise of radio and cinema. Anecdotal, warm-hearted and colourful, the book is described as a personal history – and John Major’s talk will no doubt give some fascinating insights into a lost world as well as into his own family past.
