NATIVE SON (1950) NYC Festival October 9

PostSun Sep 30, 2012 11:08 pm

NATIVE SON (1950, aka SANGRE NEGRA) will be officially exhibited for the very first time in its original form. The print was located by Fernando Martín Peña a few years ago and the film will be eventually restored shortly.

Although it is difficult for me to go, I will be there since I was one of several people that contributed for this to happen. Fernando managed to locate a print of the film as it was originally shown in Argentina, without any kind of censorship.

Hopefully the show will bring new attention to this underrated French director, Pierre Chenal, who Orson
Welles was hip enough to champion way back when. Chenal is also known for his Crime And Punishment, the
first version -and arguably the best- of The Postman Always Rings Twice called "Le Dernier Tournant,"and an adaptation of Pirandello, "L,Homme De Nulle Part," which is one of the neglected masterpieces of film history.
A full scale retrospective with archival prints is called for!
