Throughout January, Ballina Arts Centre will be hosting the third of their Ballina Film Club presents… series with a month-long programme of events celebrating the life and work of the acclaimed Japanese auteur, Akira Kurosawa.
The programme kicks off on Tuesday 5th January with the classic Seven Samurai, one of Kurosawa’s best known and most influential films. The programme continues on Tuesday 12th January with The Hidden Fortress. On Tuesday 19th January, there will be a rare chance to see Stray Dog, Kurosawa’s homage to film noir. Generally considered his first masterpiece.
The screenings programme concludes on Tuesday 26th January with the beautiful Ikiru. As well as the public screenings programme, there will also be a number of screenings of Ran for secondary school student groups.
Ballina Film Club presents Akira Kurosawa is presented in association with access>CINEMA. All screenings take place in Ballina Arts Centre and have a starting time of 8pm (except the Secondary Schools screenings).
