Example of bad RCA Victor remastering

PostFri Sep 28, 2012 9:11 pm

Around 1966 RCA Victor began to publish "remastered" versions of recordings in stereo. The results were ugly and awful and fans and collectors rejected those impostors. When you go too look for LPs you will always find these versions in abundance since collector prefer the original versions.

Sadly, the Victor successors used mono versions of these recordings for CDs and for commercial downloads. One of the most affected artists is Aníbal Troilo since it spoils the enjoyment. In this example, you will be able to hear an echo when Fiorentino sings that has never been there and, unfortunately, I can't find any version online without it:

In this other example, you will hear strange noises before the ending because the masters were spoiled (the noise is absent in 78 rpm discs).

And in this one, there is a very insulting jumpcut that cuts a portion of the tango. This is the commercial version:

If you can't perceive the jumpuct, here is my attempt reinstating the missing segment from very worn 78 rpm that I was given by collectors (it was almost impossible to match the fragment to the rest):
