Max Raabe und das Palast Orchester

PostMon Jan 30, 2012 7:45 pm

Max Raabe is from Berlin and originally studied voice in order to become an Opera singer. Somewhere along the line he discovered the music of the 1920's and 1930's and together with other musicians who enjoyed this music - started to perform it. What is particularly good about the whole ensemble is the way the repertoire is presented. All the arrangements are original to the period and Mr. Raabe is always impeccably attired in full evening dress whilst the orchestra members are in Dinner Jackets.

Whilst watching the item below selected "What are you doing today, Daisy?" I was reminded of how in the balmy days of cinema performances - members from the orchestra would appear as the stage band and there would be a chorus line of "luvlies" known as the "ballet".

I do hope that you will all enjoy this wonderful nostalgic journey..

Silents Please!

I have two DVDs of his shows in my collection as they have been released here in Australia. Fun stuff, if a bit over the top.

Donald, thanks for posting the clip. I'm a huge Max Raabe fan! I love the vintage songs and the musicians are first-rate. But Max himself is the real star attraction with his immaculately tailored 1920's tuxedo, his slicked-back hair and his delightfully droll wit.

Max and "das Orchester" are the best!! I'm seeing them this Saturday at the Met Museum. This will be the third
time I've seen them live. I'm hooked!!
