DVD Player noise.

PostSun Aug 12, 2012 12:19 pm

What the hell is this noise?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na7othRU9Ok" target="_blank

Some points:

1 - It never occurs with...shall we say...commercially produced discs.

2 - The sound and vision playback are unaffected. In other words, while this noise is going on the film is completely watchable.

3 - It is often more intermittent than is evident from the video.

4 - If I open the drawer, reclose it and restart, it occasionally will stop the noise, but not always.

The problem is liveable with. It is just annoying, and my main concern is the possibility that it is doing long term damage to the player??

I'd appreciate any input.

That sounds very annoying. You hear this only with DVD-Rs?

Sounds like your player is saying "bye, bye" !!

Seriously, because the noise is intermittent, it's hard to tell what it is. A slightly warped disc will sometimes make a scraping noise as it spins, but one that's usually continuous and repetitive. Ditto for trouble with the motor or the scanning gizmo.

This may sound silly, but I'd suggest that you GENTLY shake the player. There may be something loose inside (a label, a loose screw or a small piece of dirt or plastic, etc.) that is occasionally rubbing against some moving part. A gentle shake may dislodge it and move it out of harm's way. SETH
