I've also seen hip fracture (sometimes twice) as the reason given. I've also heard something about nerve damage due to cocaine use, though i've never been able to confirm that that was possible.

Mighten have been a major performer per se but what about Ellen Corby?

Only if he was injecting it into his hip. Not exactly a popular method even in those days.

I hope in the discussing of disability whether actors portraying disabled or real disabled actors, I hope the program goes far back into film history, back to it's beginnings and mentions this guy. I think he is an inspiration to any disabled or non-disabled person. He didn't let his malady stop him and pity he's almost completely forgotten today.

He was a fascinating man, and must have been quite an entertainer as he achieved popularity for more than just the novelty of his appearance.
