I made a beeline for the clothing. Boy, she didn't favor colors much, did she? Everything is in black, grey, or various shades of brown.

There's some brighter clothing towards page 175, but I think the offbeat/kitschy items are a lot more interesting--any number of bidders at these auctions could brag that they had a piece of Garbo's clothing, but how many could proudly point to her plastic snowman or lint brush? (and the papier-mâché cat is pretty cool.)

Love some of desk accessories. The oversized clothespin that says "Damn Bills" and the yellow smiley face ball, for example. There are some really cool things though. Fun to look at, can't afford.

There must be some reason that the Greta Garbo estate sale is going on now, 22 years after Garbo's death. There already was one estate sale on November 15-18,1990. Wikipedia states that sale made over $19 million. That sale included valuable paintings. This sale, from reading a UK Daily Mail news article, seems more like a highbrow yard sale. Plastic snowmen, papier mache cats, waffle irons and ashtrays. Garbo's heirs must figure that any money they get selling this junk is found money.

The clothing is beautiful and the prices seem very low considering the quality, let alone the provenance.

I particularly like the fact she owned a troll doll!

And of course the photographs are excellent. I wish I had enough money to splash out on something here.

Aren't these just "come-and-get-me"-estimates? At the Debbie Reynolds auction lots easily went for ten times the estimate.

The prices realised can depend on the nature of the auction. The Debbie Reynolds auctions were very high-profile, and a lot of items went for much more than they would have otherwise.

Also, it's worthwhile keeping an eye on Ebay if you miss out on something you're interested in. I didn't end up with anything from the Douglas Fairbanks Jr auction, but found some of the items from the mixed lots on Ebay a few months later.

is "the perfect pullover' among the items being auctioned? I wonder if Garbo ever found it? Much was made of her quest for it in the Kevin Brownlow documentary.

I've got my eyes on Greta's personal copy of the novel Gösta Berlings saga. (Not my wallet, mind you - just my eyes.)
