Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein Blu-Ray, 9/4/12

PostSat Jun 02, 2012 1:11 am

Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, arguably the most popular A&C feature, is coming to Blu-Ray on September 4th. It will be released as a Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack.

Amazon doesn't list it yet, but Classic Flix is taking pre-orders for $21.99.

Well, the listing gets the year wrong (1948, not 1950)...and no bonus features? Unlikely.

It also says "When purchasing this set, you'll find several bonus features on the standard DVD."

Seems like the DVD bonus features may be ported over to this Blu/DVD combo pack.

The older standard DVD release has a documentary about the making of the film as well as a trailer, so would assume they would carry over to this release.

Am curious as to how much of an improvement Blu-Ray transfer will do for this film. Lately classic Blu-Ray releases have either been little difference (Sherlock Holmes Universal titles, NOTHING SACRED) or a vast improvement (LADY FOR A DAY, IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD).

In this case, the older standard DVD transfer is superb, so how much can superb be improved?

I've seen it in HD, though not the Blu-ray (it was Amazon Prime streaming), and it looks unbelievably superb, like it was shot yesterday. And that was on a 10 foot wide screen. I'm sure the Blu-ray will be great, especially because the bit rate will be higher significantly higher than than when I saw it.
