Good stuff! Any inkling of the release dates?

The local Cinema Society screened The Connection back in the early 80s, and I've been wondering if I'd ever get a chance to see it again, or any of her other films.

What condition are the films in? The last I heard some time ago didn't sound promising. I hope they found better elements.

The release dates (Shirley Clarke, Volume 1, The Connection) start in February 2013. THE CONNECTION is 95% from the original camera negative and restored by UCLA and mastered to 2K. ORNETTE is 100% from the original 35mm internegative, restored by UCLA and is mastered to 2K. ROBERT FROST is from the 35mm restored print by UCLA and the ACADEMY and is mastered to 2K. We have found an original interpositive off the original camera negative for PORTRAIT OF JASON but that needs very complex editing and the restoration is very preliminary.

And thanks for the kind words.

That does sound like good news, much better than the situation years back.

Dennis, many thanks for the info. I'll be saving up whatever money I have left after a certain Charley Chase collection!

Does anyone know what the situation is with another famous Shirley Clarke film, The Cool World? Locked up by that old nemesis, "rights issues"?

The Cool World was produced by Frederick Wiseman and is available from his Zipporah Films: http://www.zipporah.com/films/35

Thanks for the info, however I see it's only offered as a 16mm rental or a VHS at $400 - not viable options for everyone.

There must be some reason they have no regular market DVD edition of the film, because the demand should certainly be there.

Mr. Wiseman has resisted putting his films on "regular market DVD"s. That's the reason why The Cool World is not available on a consumer DVD. From what I understand there are no underlying rights issues or anything like that. It's Mr. Wiseman's film and he can do with it what he wants.
