Gee, all I was doing was getting the amounts from the gossip and trade publications of the time. Stars got some serious cash even during the Depression (Constance Bennett being notable for some reason), and featured players didn't do badly, either. Nice to see some agreements.

Interesting indeed.

Not only was Linda Darnell very lovely but her handwriting aint bad either

That Shemp Howard paycheck is dated May 10, 1947. That was a Saturday.
I thought I'd try to figure out exactly which film for Columbia Pictures he was working on and being paid for that week. It turns out he wasn't actively filming during the week ending the 10th. I don't know details on how or when they paid their employees, but for the record, here's what Shemp was doing during the previous few weeks and following couple months after May 10.
April 1 through 4, 1947 - Filming Three Stooges short SING A SONG OF SIX PANTS.
April 22 through 25, 1947 - Filming ALL GUMMED UP.
May 19 through 21, 1947 - Filming PARDON MY CLUTCH.
May 26 through 29, 1947 - Filming FIDDLERS THREE.
June 23 through June 26, 1947 - Filming HEAVENLY DAZE.
July 28 through 31, 1947 - Filming I'M A MONKEY'S UNCLE.

The check being dated May 10, maybe it was for pre-production meetings for the short PARDON MY SCOTCH.

Fascinating material! I'm assuming that Warner Oland was working on CC AT THE OLYMPICS during the first quarter of 1937. If I read that correctly it appears he made $5,000 for six hours work on two dates, and over $9,000 for 11 hours work.

Oh dear, what I imagine I see when I first wake up in the morning. I saw THE VIRGIN BAR and after that thought I saw, THE TAMPON STRINGS STORY.

“The Producer agrees to make and produce during a period of one year from the date hereof, a series of two-reel motion picture comedies not exceeding ten in number, all of a proper and entertaining character, with competent cast suitable for distribution and exhibition in first-class motion picture theatres. Each of said motion picture comedies shall consist of a connected story in sequence and continuity with proper titles and be approximately two thousand linear feet in length.... The producer agrees to accept as and for payment in full for each complete motion picture comedy sold and delivered ... the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars.... The Producer must include in said sum, a salary to himself of one thousand dollars per week during production....” Countersigned by producer E. J. “Eddie” Mannix

August 27, 1934 Fox Film letter related to Tracy’s refusal to appear in Marie Galante, wherein “your said failure … to render your services for us in connection with said production has directly and indirectly caused us to sustain serious and irreparable financial and other damages ... impossible to compute at the present time.” As a result, Tracy agreed to return to the studio under the previous terms of his contract and pay $42,000 in compensation
