You guys have no idea how torturous this is, not being able to transfer the colorized pics. I'm gonna be very late this Mother's Day with mine.
Anyway, Claire Windsor's kid looks real cute! He has his mother's eyes (obviously).

Martie,

:D I go crazy if I can't post a photo too! Here's some stuff I haven't linked here yet. Pretty soon I'll have to make up some new Color transfers, as my back log of files is running a bit low.

Gagman,
The Blythe, Davies and Gish pics have an exotic allure about them.
Do you know the preservation status of Chu Chin Chow?

Martie,

:? I rather doubt that CHU CHIN CHOW is around. However it's Metro-Goldwyn, so it's possible. Overall I don't think that Betty Blythe's survival status is none to good.

That Chu Chin Chow lobby card makes me want to see it even more.
There just isn't an end to the amount of Rough House Rosie stills, are there?
Not that I'm complaining...

Diamond Handcuffs, Daughters of Luxury, A Sainted Devil, Poisoned Paradise, Don Juan's 3 Nights, etc...
The 20's sure had the most interesting film titles this side of paradise.

The day.
Has finally come.
Finally, I can post my colorizations!
Well, enough jibber-jabbering, time to get started!

Apologies if I got her eye/hair-color wrong.

That Clara pic I've been dying to post:

Now, for Mother's Day:

Not my most impressive work, but then again, it's my fault I chose a picture with crappy low-rez count.
I couldn't exactly help myself, though. It was so damn cute!

Martie,

:o Lo, the Nazimova looks like Real Two-Color Technicolor! Cool photo! I don't think I have ever worked on a pic of her before. The Clara Mommie photo is nice. Haven't seen that before I don't think.

More from Don Juan's Three Nights
Image

Here's one other photo I have from Don Juan's Three Nights. I started a color transfer on it, but I didn't like how it was starting to look. I'll work on it again at a later time, but I thought that I would at least post the uncolorized version of it at least.

Okay, I somehow forgot who this is, but she looks very familiar:

Maude Fealy:

The only part that was pre-colored was the clothes, hat and emerald. I enhanced the emerald only.
Maude again:

I regret colorizing her clothing because now I messed it up, not to mention her lips don't look too good.

Little Caesar,

:D I'm back after being out of action all week. :(

:) Here is the Jolson with some minor tweeks. Very good start though. I made the hair colors a little more authentic. Who is the gorgeous brunette beauty that you gave Green eyes to Al's left? Golly Mama, what a Pippin!

I'll try my hand at the other one from the Lewis Stone picture. Sad it's a lost film. Looks like a hoot.

Image

Martie,

The Maud's are great. Dorothy Mackaill had Brown Peepers though.

LC, you did a swell job on Jolie and company (although the color makes the girl behind and to the left of Jolson a little pop-eyed). I think our old friend Jeff is still afraid of color.

Your tweeks look good. I agree with you on the brunette cutie. Sometimes I think that I was born fifty to sixty years too late.

Here's a picture that I picked up cheap several months ago. The seller didn't identify Bebe Daniels nor Raymond Griffith. I like the skin tone that I achieved with Raymond, but I think Bebe looks a bit pale.

Pretty damn risqué outfits.
I agree about the brunette with the green eyes. She looks familiar, for some reason.
You might want to tone down the eyebrow pencil on the girl between her and Al.

RF,

:) Thanks. At first I thought it was June Collyer? I was not happy with either of these photos.

Caesar,

Bebe doesn't look pale, she looks yellow? and why is her hair so black? Made some changes on DON JUAN'S 3 Nights again, but overall I wasn't pleased. See what you think?

It seems whenever one of us post a colorized pic the other disappears for several days.
Anyway, I believe Clara's leading man in the Two Can Play still is Allan Forrest.

Dammit, now the laptop doesn't wanna transfer again.

Nice job, Caesar. I'm a big Jolson fan so it's nice to see somebody other than me doing Jolie color transfers. Here's one of my earlier efforts that's not bad but I messed up on Ruby's hair. The photo is from Oct 1937 at a testimonial dinner for Eddie Cantor. Joe E. Brown is in the middle. Compare Al's hair to your SINGING KID photo. While it's very subtle, Al wore a hairpiece in the movie but you only notice when compared to his real hair:

I take your point on the Bebe Daniels/Raymond Griffith photo. I went back and altered Bebe's skin and hair color. What do you think?

Bob,
I've been a big Jolson fan since I caught an airing of The Jolson Story on the Disney Channel sometime in the early 90s. Can you imagine that being shown on the Disney Channel today?

Presenting Laura La Plante and Edward Everett Horton enjoying one another's company in Poker Faces (1926):
Image
After obtaining this photo several months ago, I found myself very reluctant to look up any information about the movie because I was dreading finding out that this movie was among the myriad of lost Universal movies. However, to my pleasant surprise, when I finally did research this movie a little, I found out that this movie is among the surviving. I hope to see it someday. There were some challenging aspects to this color transfer. Namely, even after boosting the contrast, it was difficult to make out the details on the dining table. I finally opted to not attempt to color most of the items on the table.

Little Caesar, good decision on leaving the things on the table alone, but there's too much blue in the curtain and it clashes with Laura's dress. I'd guess the curtains are more of an eggshell color or lace white.

Here's a few new ones I posted on my OLD HOLLYWOOD site:

An iconic photo of Garbo and Gilbert in FLESH AND THE DEVIL (1927):

Caesar, Bob,

:? Happy Memorial Day weekend? What no military pics? I could use some stills from WEST POINT since it is on TCM tonight. Even more so a Lobby-card or two.

I think I would have had the curtain white, or transparent, since you can see bushes and things behind it. Kind of an odd still with those Bug-eyed expressions. Is POKER FACES around?

The Harlow is really good. I've done a few stills from this scene in Flesh And The Devil, and my ideas for Garbo's dress are quite different. Not what used to.

Here is Adrienne Dore. A really Beautiful girl, but her Beer is Ugly! Can you fix it? Not having any luck. Course maybe it was supposed to be Dark Bavarian Beer? That could be what is wrong? Thanks.

Gagman,

I admit that I didn't know what color to make Garbo's dress but I didn't want it to overshadow the "flame" effect. I didn't color Gilbert's uniform at all.

Here's my effort to make the mugs of beer look more appetizing. You'll notice that I made the glasses deeper to provide more brewskis:

Bob,

:? OK. Thanks. The beer seems to look a little bit better. I still think it was probably Dark Beer though. You likely do not like her skin-tone very well either. Rather pink. I thought you'd remark on Betty Compson's stockings.

:? This is likely to be starting off a new page. Here is an older Gilbert and Garbo from that same sequence. Probably done about 4 years ago or so. The Giant is upside down. As you can see the colors are quite somber and muted. Hard to work with because the scene is so low lighted. I know I have several other photos that I have worked on. This was the first I could find. Anyway, see what you think.

By they way, there is a little bit of crawling color (blue) in your photo on Greta's neck. :(

Gagman,

To tell the truth, I wasn't looking a Betty Compton's stockings. Now that you mention it though, they do resemble support hosery. Garbo's neck creep is the result of doing a rush job. Since the photo is not taken from original sources it will look grainy if I try to publish it in a future book, but for blogging purposes it's OK. Your photos have a pronounced pastel tone that is very good on it's own terms so I wouldn't even try to persuade you to change it. Keep going!
