Cinecon Nitrateville dinner

PostFri Aug 10, 2012 8:54 pm

Rick Levinson has booked a big table at Musso and Frank's on Friday night, the 31st, for a friendly Nitrateville dinner. If you would like to attend, please post something here, so we can make sure that we reserve enough seats. The reservation is for 6:45.

Alas Musso Franks is unaffordable for me, with limited funds I can only go to the dealers rooms one day of the weekend. Would be nice to meet other Nitrateville people though.

Musso & Franks? I can't even afford the trip to LA in neither time nor money. It's proving to be difficult enough to make a run to the Bay Area for some research I'm doing, but it has a chance to pan out in an interesting silent-era Hollywood story.

I know that they can be expensive, but the pasta is not as pricey as the steaks. If you can't afford M&F we'll be happy so meet some people at Mel's for lunch during the weekend.

Just remember folks that immediately after the Friday dinner break we're showing the recently discovered and restored "Billy and his Pal", one of only five surviving films from the Star Film Ranch. Author Frank Thompson, the man who paid for its restoration will be in attendance.

That's what you get for going elsewhere. (Sniff.)

Heck yeah, I'll be there! :D Someone will need to teach me the secret handshake so I can make myself known (or perhaps the accent will be a dead giveaway ...)

I will suggest that all attendees take a good look at the menu in advance so we can order quickly and have a good amount of time for conversation.

We had 17 people turn out for a fun Nitrateville dinner at Musso and Franks. I've posted some photos on my Facebook page, but I don't have time to post them here. To make the evening even more delightful, Rick Levinson picked up the check for the entire party. Thanks, Rick!

NitrateVille met at the arranged dinner that Rick Levinson had organized during the dinner brake Friday August 31; there were was a full table about 17 people. Musso & Franks is a rather expense restaurant but it is only once a year. Rick was setting beside me and the table was just full of wonderful authors, film historian, people that make documentaries and movie restorers, a very powerful table indeed (it was like I got to sit with the grown-ups) and then at the end of the meal, good old Rick, who is now my best buddy…announced that he was our host and pick up the whole check…the entire bill plus tip!

It was a great dinner. The conversation was enlightening and informative. For the "Old Hollywood" experience it doesn't get better than Musso's. Thanks again to our host Rick Levinson!. Hope you enjoyed your first Cinecon and boy did you pick a great year to come.

I spent a lot of time with Rick this weekend. He's a great guy. I felt a little guilty. If I'd have known he was picking up the check I probably would have gotten a little smaller steak!

I'm afraid that none of my pictures turned out particularly well (it's pretty dimly lit in there) but here's the Nitrateville table:
