Re: STRONGHEART AND LADY JULIE - THE SILENT CINEMA DOG STARS

A beautiful photo that needs a bit of restoration:

Alas, Strongheart met a sad end making a film in 1929. He slid into an arc lamp of some sort and died of his injuries.

"Letters to Strongheart" (1941) Signed Copy Offered On eBay

PostFri Oct 12, 2012 11:22 am

Spiritualism and Strongheart
After Strongheart's death, J. Allen Boone wrote a book, "Letters to Strongheart," about the survival of the dog's soul after death. The book was reprinted many times and remains a classic of the Spiritualist faith.

Have a major collection of dog books, but never heard of this one.

I never heard of it either. I wonder if a similar book were published for Rin Tin Tin when he died in 1932?

Here's a photo of Rinty from ebay dated 1929 but with no identification of the man. Can anybody identify him?

The man with Rinty is the Russian film director Sergei Eisenstein. It's probably from Eisenstein's trip to Hollywood in the early 1930s.

Thanks Steve. No doubt Sergei and Rinty are discussing a possible film project to be titled TEN DAYS THAT SHOOK THE KENNEL.

The message, I'd say, being sent by Rinty's erect ears & tense posture is "keep your distance, Ruskie."

And Eisenstein's posture says "No dogs on the furniture! Get on the cutting-room floor!"

All kidding aside, Sergei is probably thinking to himself, "This dog lives better than most people in my country."

(I'm posting a color version of this photo in the Image Gallery along with the Strongheart & Lady Julie photo.)

I borrowed the Rinty/Eisenstein photo for my Facebook page. I hope you don't mind, Mr. Fells. Let me know if you do and I shall delete it. I simply felt a shot of 2 such geniuses together had to be shared with other folks.

Bob,

If you're referring to my color edition, then you are quite welcome to use it. The b/w version is from ebay as I mentioned when I posted it here so I really can't claim anything for it. Thanks for asking!
