fantasy fairie tail "Fantasma" (1914) ever been on

PostTue Dec 02, 2008 8:52 pm

Edison's studios produced a fantasy film in 1914 called Fantasma. It exists in archives. Has it ever been on video?

A deteroirating reel was sold on eBay for $522.50 back in early 2006.

Has anyone here seen it?

Looks like a doozy!

The AFI site says this...

Princess Lena, the fiancée of Prince Arthur, is desired by Zamaliel, the ruler of the Netherworld, who unleashes his imps on them. Lena and Arthur are protected by Fantasma, the benevolent queen of the fairies, but in an unguarded moment, Lena is abducted by Zamaliel, who carries her to his kingdom beneath the sea. Accompanied by the kindly clown Pico and by a goat, Arthur rescues Lena and sails away with her on the Sea of Happiness.

I remember when that reel was on eBay. I bid on it and was immediatly outbid within seconds. I was really shocked that one single reel of decomposing 35mm nitrate went for over $500.
