15% off code seems to be working multiple times on separate single orders:

from dvdtalk.com:
Pull up the BN.com site without being logged in to your membership account. Add 1 title to your cart, enter the 15% off code, then log in to your account and the coupon will stick. If you try to do it while being logged in, it will only let you use the coupon once. I placed 6 separate orders this morning all using the same 15% off coupon.

---
Used the AAA B&N store URL that many of us used in the last sale and what it does is add the 10% off code to your entire order: J3M9D8K

Best Buy has Metropolis on Blu-Ray for $15 in store. If you use the $5 off coupon that's been floating around Coupon Here then it's down to a mere $10 for one of the best silent films ever made. :D

Thanks, Battra92. I had to visit two Best Buy stores until I found a copy (I rarely go to brick-and-mortar for dvds anymore) and it was marked $22.98 w/o any sign of a discount. But at the checkout $8 was deducted and with the $5 coupon I got it for $10. Quite a bargain!

Ben-Hur (1959) is coming out on Blu-ray later this year. It includes the silent version with the Carl Davis score, however I don't know if the silent version, which is on a third disc, will be a Blu-ray presentation.

Meanwhile, the "regular" four-disc DVD version, issued in 2005, is on sale at Amazon. It also has the silent version with the Carl Davis score. It is on sale at $9.51, 76 percent off. This is from a third party, and fulfilled by Amazon. There are other offers on there too, some fulfilled by Amazon. Depending upon shipping charges, one of those might be a better deal.

Chaplin at Freestone?

PostFri Aug 19, 2011 9:38 am

OK...so technically this isn't free but it is a great price for those of us in the US...with a catch. You need a region free dvd player...which a lot of you probably already have...some without even knowing it. And if you don't have one, you can buy one with the savings. The BFI version of Chaplin at Keystone can be gotten new for $27.74USD at amazon.co.uk, while the lowest price I could find for the US version is $60.37. So if you haven't gotten (or unlocked?) your region free player yet, what are you waiting for? Need more? $100 for Les Vampires US vs $23 UK. Tabu? $48 vs $19. Mad Love? $80 vs $12. Plus titles that aren't even available in the US.

The second leg of Deep Discounts bi-annual 25% off sale begins 11/03 and runs through 11/20. Criterions will be close to the BN 50% off sale and might be a bit cheaper if you can avoid sales tax. The code is WINTER11. Not everything is on sale however, it's "select DVD's, Blu-rays and other items".

Laurel & Hardy Essential set seems to be exempt from the discount, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Sometimes DVDs are added to the "qualified for a discount" list later in the month.

I goofed. It doesn't look like Criterion's DVD's are eligible for this sale. The Kino prices are still quite decent.

Thanks, kndy. I checked this out and found the blu-ray of SUNRISE (1927) offered including both the Fox Movietone release and a Czech version "recently discovered" and claiming to be in better shape than the Fox version. The cost with free shipping worldwide is $24 US. I checked Amazon.com and they offer this same edition through two sellers starting at $79 US. A word to the wise......

Just to clarify, the version offered for $79 on Amazon is actually the previous MoC Blu-ray only edition, which was suddenly deleted due to the Sony warehouse fire/heist in London (even Eureka's site lists it as "sold out"). The new Dual Format edition being sold directly by Eureka is the same of course except you get a DVD too. I expect this may soon show up on Amazon at a reasonable price (it's currently just under £15 from Amazon UK). The inflated price of the Blu-ray only edition reflects its OOP "first edition" status, I guess, for people who care about such things.

Of course, Eureka's worldwide free shipping makes it the best current deal, especially for non-UK buyers, and it presumably gives them a higher return to invest in future releases. The superior Czech print of Sunrise is much shorter than the domestic release, by the way.

Just in case you (or anyone else) didn't realize it, you can log into Amazon.co.uk (or any of the other Amazons, except China, I think) using your Amazon.com login. They already have all of your account info - including your credit card info, so using the U.K. site is really no different from using the U.S. site.

Since Amazon U.S. is shipping so slowly these days (about 5 days for my recent orders), it could very well be you get your order from amazon.uk quicker than a domestic order, too.

Amazon UK is indeed always quicker for me as I'm in the UK :) but I assumed US buyers might find it cheaper to order through their domestic Amazon where possible, (the reverse is usually true for UK buyers, due to shipping costs and other factors). But yes, it's a good point for those unaware - I often buy from Amazon.fr, .de and .it with no account difficulties, as well as the US site when they have a better deal or an item isn't available through the Amazon UK Marketplace.

Thinking about it further, it may indeed sometimes be cheaper for US customers to buy from Amazon UK as I understand they take off the 20% VAT for non-EU destinations. I don't know what their international shipping costs are like. Amazon US charges $6.48 (for the first item) to the UK, where as an importer on Amazon UK Marketplace can only charge £1.26 (about $2) per item. Of course, the item cost must also be compared, but it's often cheaper than Amazon US.

I have prime so my stuff usually comes pretty fast here in the states. Order from the UK site and French site when it is cheaper (even with shipping it sometimes is) or when item is not available in US. UK and French site I find to be pretty slow and have even have orders never show up, although they will resend. Get a region free dvd player and there's a treasure trove of stuff not available here. French site has Borzage blu-rays, which I can't find anywhere else and they are region free. Think it cost me about 90 bucks american, with shipping, when I ordered them.

Buying from the various Amazons gets a little weird but in a good way. For example -this probably belongs on the talkie deals thread but the point is valid here- I was seeking the Sternberg/Dietrich DISHONORED and SHANGHAI EXPRESS that are available only in Region 2. Amazon.com doesn't offer these titles but Amazon.co.uk does but through Movie Mars, a US seller in North Carolina. But go directly to Movie Mars and it doesn't list either title. So I bought them from Amazon UK and they are being shipped to me in Virginia from the state next door, NC.

Not a fan of MovieMars...avoid them as much as possible....in my experience: terrible customer service...shipments are always slow or suddenly item is "out of stock" but I have gotten a couple of movies via that route myself.

I should knock on wood as I write this, but I've ordered a number of items from Movie Mars over the last couple of years and never had a problem. We'll see about the Dietrich order. But I have always ordered through Amazon so perhaps MM makes more of an effort to fly right with Amazon.

Good point. 2nd party sellers on amazon are supposed to ship within 2 business days. If ordering from them, would go through amazon rather than directly through their site.
