Cobra! Starring Kay Francis!

PostFri Aug 10, 2012 2:08 pm

On June 2, 1931, Louella Parsons reported that Paramount was considering remaking the Valentino film, Cobra, with Paul Lukas (!!) in the role of Rodrigo Torriani and Kay Francis as Elise van Zile. Obviously this one never made it to the screen, and I'm having cognitive issues with Paul Lukas = Valentino, but DAMN!! Don't you wish it had??

If it had been Warner Brothers, Torriani would have been played by Ricardo Cortez.

Well, they had just made "The Vice Squad" together, and it had been released 30 May, so it probably was an idea just being kicked around, but after "The Vice Squad", it was probably a good idea that the idea was dropped...

Supposedly Lubitsch first considered casting Kay Francis as Chevalier's wife and Lilyan Tashman as the scheming friend in ONE HOUR WITH YOU. That would have been fun.
