Ronald Colman & Ida Lupino in Du Maurier's REBECCA - Live!

PostSat Jun 23, 2012 11:28 am

Many N'ville residents know that producer David O. Selznick wanted Ronald Colman to play Maxim De Winter in REBECCA (1940). Colman must have regretted turning down the role when the film became a big hit and won critical praise for Laurence Olivier. But at OLD HOLLYWOOD IN COLOR (click the link below) we are pleased to present Ronald Colman as Maxim de Winter, and Ida Lupino playing the Joan Fontaine role (Du Maurier never names this character), in the one hour radio adaptation of REBECCA as heard live on February 3, 1941.

As an added attraction, Dame Judith Anderson repeats her role as Mrs. Danvers, and David O. Selznick is interviewed by Cecil B. DeMille at the end of the show.
