Niagara (53)

Has anybody else got the Fox Diamond restoration release of this? My copy seems to have slight sharpness issues here and there. Whenever there's a scene change the image is initially, for a second or so, soft before sharpening up.
I'm just wondering if it's just my copy.

Haven't seen this in quite some time, but if the scene changes that go soft all use optical effects like fades, dissolves, or wipes, then the softness is the usual by-product of additional optical printing generations for those effects, with the sharpness jumps indicating that the film is back to being printed from the original negative again. If the softness occurs without any optical effects, it may be due to restoration using dupe footage, warped film, unsteadiness in the film gate on the printer or scanner, or some other anomaly.

I'm hoping this will eventualy show up on Blu-ray, as it's not included in the upcoming Marilyn Monroe box set. WIth the increased sharpness overall, there will be a greater disparity visible between the film itself and any optical effects than possible on a DVD or VHS copy, so it will be easier to tell what the problem might have been.

Thanks.
Yeah, that sounds like what's going on here.
Yes, I'll bet it'd look good on Blu.
Nice film. I always feel Monroe is underrated in this.

I was at "the falls" in the late 50s and everything looked pretty much as it did in this film. Good little film; good performances but I wonder how/why they went with Don Wilson? Oh, Don!
