Potential 'House of Wax' 3D blu ray

PostThu Jul 05, 2012 7:20 pm

For all the critiques of home 3d display technology, et al, I for one am DYING to see this released properly. The ps3 download of 'The Mad Magician' is far and away the best 3d i've seen on a home device so using a primary, polarized print should yield spectacular results.

But... much more importantly... I hope if they go through with it that some intelligent WB exec ads and HD transfer of 'Mystery of the Wax Museum' as a bonus!

It all comes down to making money. Warner's is looking closely at the pre-sales of "Dial "M" for Murder" and if it sells, you will see "House of Wax" and then "Kiss Me Kate."

I sure wouldn't go to the effort and added expense of investing in a 3-D Blu-ray player and 3-D projector or monitor just to watch one or two movies, or even four or five. HUGO was very nice in 3-D, some of the digital cartoons are fun in 3-D, and even TITANIC was surprisingly impressive in 3-D, but they're not enough. The announcements of 3-D Blu-rays of DIAL M FOR MURDER and THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON are definitely a large step in the right direction, however. If HOUSE OF WAX and KISS ME KATE, and HONDO show up in 3-D with the promise of at least a few more of the major 1950s 3-D classics (especially REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, and MISS SADIE THOMPSON), it would probably push me over the edge towards getting 3-D capability, though I'd still prefer to wait until a good half-dozen or more of the 1950s 3-D titles are already available rather than the promise that they might come if the first one sells well. I could see going 3-D if I could have a reasonably balanced collection of at least a dozen or more 1950s 3-D titles, a few 1980s 3-D titles, and perhaps a dozen or so of the 3-D films from the past decade. That would still probably be only about 30-40 discs, compared to over 1000 movies on regular Blu-ray (almost half of those from before 1980). If they don't dig into their 3-D catalogs, they just won't sell as many 3-D players. And if I did have a 3-D player and 3-D TV or projector, I'd also be more inclined to buy the 3-D versions of some of the newer films that were shot in 3-D from time to time. But that won't happen without a decent selection of older 3-D films available as well.

In any case, I also agree that a 3-D Blu-ray of HOUSE OF WAX should include a new HD transfer of MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM but with the color done properly with its original green and orange color palatte as it was on the laserdisc, and not looking all blue and red like it is on the DVD (speaking of which, the Blu-ray of THE BLACK PIRATE, while extremely sharp, has the same blu-red shifted color problem and should be re-done).
