Fitzgerald's The Last Tycoon

PostTue Jul 10, 2012 10:15 pm

Learned only recently that Irving Thalberg had been its inspiration, & therfor read it. Knowing more than a little about Thalberg detracts, I think, from one's appreciation of it, because (involuntary) comparison of the fictional protagonist with the real man is a constant distraction. There is in fact a lot of Thalberg in it, but of course, it's not meant to be biographical at all. Didn't care for it, honestly, but others may differ.
