Very well written & informative piece. Had no idea Ben & Marilyn were ever an "item"! Her Majesty, Love is a great favorite of mine, although I was somewhat crushed, the first time I saw it, that Marilyn did so little singing, & NO dancing--incredible, considering her fame as a dancer! Ben's singing--well, it's not unpleasant, but hardly suited, really, to sustain a musical; on the other hand, his voice equals that of Gene Kelly--proof, I guess, that personality trumps vocal ability. Fortunately, in that picture, there was Don Novis, whose voice I love.

Thanks.

I also like Marylin Miller in Sally and Sunny.

I'm surprised they don't mention ALIAS FRENCH GERTIE in which Ben & Bebe costarred very effectively. It's memorable for one great line: they're a team of burglars, but Bebe wants to go straight. Ben stomps out snarling "I don't need a partner...not when I've got my good right hand!". These days it never fails to get a howl.

I couldn't mention every film and the article was on Lyon, not the both of them. Alias French Gertie didn't make much of an impression, I guess.....

Two of the biggest bootleggers to survive (so far!) the intimidation of fat-cat corporate Hollywood tell me, apropos Hi Gang & Alias Gertie, “f’get about it.” As well as Love Comes Along, & numerous others. (Shames me to report dealings with the underworld, but that’s what happens, you know, to addicts.)
