I've put together the Program Schedule for the 3rd annual Niles Film Museum's Mid-Winter Comedy Festival, and this website's the first place it will be made public. This is President's Day Weekend, 2008 at the Niles-Essanay Film Museum in Niles, California. It's a nice weekend in beautiful, historic Niles, and if there's a comedy you don;t want to see, you can drive up the Canyon and see where Chapin walked down the road at the end of THE TRAMP.

The Niles Essanay museum presents films every Saturday night. Beside's Richard's Mid-Winter Comedy festival, there is also the Broncho Billy festival in June.

The Kansas Silent Film Festival is February 22nd and 23rd this year. Their website is at http://www.kssilentfilmfest.org/ . If my work schedule permits, I'll be attending this year and I'll be posting more information about the schedule. The semi-official schedule for this year is at http://www.kssilentfilmfest.org/kssff2008/program.html .

The Iola Keaton festival is run by many of the same people as the Kansas SFF. I doubt the schedule will be posted until this summer.

The UK Slapstick comedy festival in Bristol, England starts January 17th. The website is at http://www.slapstick.org.uk/events.htm.

A couple of notes:

Titles will be listed on the Cinevent Web Site sometime this month and the full schedule should be there at the end of February or beginning of March.

Also the correct dates for Cinefest in Syracuse are March 13 - 16. Your dates have it starting on Sunday (not a good plan for a convention!)

The Betzwood, Pennsylvania Film Festival spotlights Lubin and Betzwood films made in the Philadelphia area. This year's festival is May 3, 2008.

Some attendance links have been added to the Cinevent web site. From the Home Page select the Announcement for Cinevent 40. At the bottom of that page there is now a placeholder for the film schedule - that should be added within the next two weeks. Also there is a link for a reservation form for the Ramada Plaza hotel, and a link to a registration form for attending the show. You can type the info in, print it out and mail it with your payment, or you can click to pay your registration via PayPal (there is an additional charge of $1 per paid registration for using this option.)

Hope these links and the (hopefully) improved registration form help some of you make arrangements to join us for the fun in Columbus, Ohio over Memorial Day weekend!

The British Silent Cinema Festival - 2008, now in its 11th year, is a celebration of British cinema before 1930 and is organized in collaboration with the British Film Institute.

The Festival aims to showcase the vast collection of films, fiction and non fiction, produced in Britain before the advent of sound, principaly from the collection at the BFI National Archive, the UK's national repository of film and television. Many of the films are 're-discoveries' and will not have been seen in public for several decades.

The nineteenth annual Betzwood Silent Film Festival will be held on
Saturday, May 3rd, at 8:00 pm in the Science Center Theater at
Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, PA.

This year’s event celebrates the life and work of one of Betzwood’s
most beloved stars, Wilna Hervey, who played Powerful Katrinka in the
Toonerville Trolley films. In real life, the Amazonian Wilna Hervey
(six foot three, three hundred pounds) was a noted American artist who
lived most of her eighty-five years in the Maverick Art Colony at
Woodstock, NY. An article on Wilna’s remarkable and unconventional
life, with a gallery of her paintings and enamels, can be found on the

In addition to her Toonerville films, we will be screening a rare
surviving copy of one of the “Plum Center” comedies she made in
California after Betzwood closed. As always, the films will be
projected at the correct speed on a big screen, with live
accompaniment on the organ by Don Kinnier.
