It's a new year (or will be shortly) and that means it's time for new thinking! New ideas! Big ideas! And nobody better to provide those than Warren William and his associates Mr. Sparks and Mr. Kibbee, seen here in a still from Lady For a Day, kindly provided by Louie D.

Image

Many stray mentions of William here, though I can't seem to find a major thread. Did I never post what I was thinking about The Match King? I guess not.

I also meant to draw attention to this very strange item...

You know, I have one picture of her and King Vidor but she's in sort of clownface makeup (I think it's The Patsy) and it doesn't really do her charm justice... but if somebody has a good one, send it to me!

Strange indeed. I've always called those huevos rancheros, except that the latter include hot sauce.

Here in Aztlan, pardner, huevos rancheros are tortillas topped by a fried egg, salsa, refried beans, and cheese, hot sauce optional. That bread thing is strange. Might be kind of interesting to try, though.

After posting, I Googled and found what you're describing. Similar to what I know, except for bread rather than tortillas. I dunno, it must be a Midwestern thing...

With the two Talmadge Sisters releases coming in March from Kino, it seems the proper time to honor one of the most famous sister duos in movie history. We'll start with Norma, seen here looking like she's been painted by Burne-Jones or some other Victorian of the grand manner. Next month, Connie— and the guy who costars in enough of them that they count as a major silent release for him, as well.

P.S. I finally found a Marion Davies I like. It will turn up sometime this year.

And as promised, this month it's Connie's turn— and her costar Ronald Colman's, in Her Sister From Paris. Some excellent NitrateVillain posted this image (the full still is well worth seeing) though I can't seem to find it now. Thanks, whoever you were!

You're welcome! I've been wanting to see this movie forever, and now, thanks to Kino, I will! :D Really cute pic of both of them.

In light of the present economic crisis it is necessary for every aspect of the state to be mobilized on behalf of new ideas and progress which will benefit the people. THEREFORE, it is the directive of the leaders of NitrateVille that the site will devote itself to spreading education through the use of the motion picture medium, and in particular by showcasing and discussing the work of the artists who are on the front lines of the struggle, the great Soviet filmmakers such as Eisenstein, Pudovkin, Dovzhenko, and Vertov.

I KNEW this site was nothing but a Commie front group. Now when Gebert locks a thread, it'll stay locked. And so will the participants.
