Tweet Looking for Quote Someone Posted On AMS

A few years back, someone posted a quote on AMS which I foolishly did not save. I don't rememer exactly how the quote went and no amount of searching has unearthed it. Maybe I dreamed it? Anyhow, the gist of it is thus:

"A sure mark of a refined intellect is the ability to appreciate and enjoy the culture of an earlier era."

Any ideas? Anyone know of any one-liners that say essentially the same thing? Should I just go with it and take the credit?
