Why have my posts been held over for banned word usage?

PostWed Feb 02, 2011 4:31 pm

Hi all, I am a new member and I have made several posts relating to Groucho Marx character Captain Spaulding. My posts have been held up for banned word usage. I have not used any offensive words or made any controversial or offensive statements in these posts. After my first attempt I was banned and unable to view the forum for a few days. When I was able to view again my account had been de-activated. Now I have re-registered again and the same thing happened again? Can one of the moderators please explain?

Sorry for the problems that you've had. The spam filters work by finding certain words in posts that are frequently used by spammers; many of these would be obvious, but some are less so, and sometimes they make up several letters of a longer "innocent" word. It's likely that some of these were in your post, unknown to you, and triggered the filter. Once you've made two posts (which you now have), the system should leave you alone for future posts.

Another recent member from Australia had issues with banning and site unavailability; if you'd like to PM your IP number to me, I can check to make sure it's not part of the "banned list". Sometimes these things don't quite make sense to us either! Again, sorry for the problems you've had, and we'll do our best to get things in order.

I've approved your post. The spam filters work on the first few posts that you make. Spammers won't waste time making legitimate posts just so that they can post credit offers, porn, or pharmaceuticals. So after you have made a few posts, you don't have to worry about the filter any more.

Welcome to N-Ville, BTW.
