Re: New Look

Things are getting better. Still want some kind of art deco movie-house pillars along the sides, or something similar, but I'm assuming these things take time.

One possible glitch which I don't think has been mentioned before (and I'm not going to search back through all the previous postings to be sure...) After I post something and click on "go back", the page expires. I click on "go back" a second time and everything returns to normal. Is anyone else having this little hiccup? It happens regardless of which browser I am using.

I dunno, let's see...

(posts)

By Go Back, do you mean "Return to Forum Last Visited," or that you click the go back arrow at the top of your browser?

Either way, I'm not getting what you're getting...

I click on the go-back arrow.

Let me post this one and see what happens...

Well, NATURALLY it works fine now! Like that terrible toothache that magically disappears when you walk into the dentist's office...

Clicking on any of the page commands ("return to ..." whatever) works fine. It's only with the browser's go-back button that this ever happens.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but in a couple of cases when people are attempting to quote, what's been showing up is just the raw code.

So, pretend the <s are [s, and what I'm seeing is:

<quote>Quote</quote>

instead of

Quote

The code that's being entered seems to be spelt and formatted correctly, so I don't know how it's happening. There's one instance in http://www.nitrateville.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9983&p=64796 as an example.

"Disable BBcode" is checked on that post. If your posts do that, and you don't want them to, go to your profile and I believe there's a setting there somewhere for that.

I didn't realize until the other day that I had removed the direct link to a more advanced search function than the search window. Click on Advanced Search under the masthead and you get a page offering a number of options such as searching by individual forum, poster name, etc.

Is there some way of forcing a search for an exact phrase? The search function has an odd habit of ignoring certain common words that you search for, regardless of whether or not you put the full phrase in quotation marks. There doesn't seem to be any way to bypass this, and it can make it difficult to find references to specific films.

For example, I searched for "Are You Listening" (1932), and the search function ignored both `Are' and `You', so the only result I was able to get was every thread where the word `listening' was used.

I'm sure there must be some way to do it, but I've tried half a dozen and can't work it out.

After looking at this page:

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... act+phrase" target="_blank" target="_blank

I can suggest using Google. So, once Google has had a chance to index the latest entries in Nitrateville,
you should be able to enter into the Google search box:

site:nitrateville.com "are you listening"

and see if that works for that or other searches.

It's not just common words like "are" and "you". A common word on this site is "tcm", but not in the rest of the world. But a "tcm" search here will be ignored because it is so commonly used.

Right. The built-in search functionality of PhpBB boards is always weird that way; Google is more likely to produce a useful result. You can create a bookmark for a Google page that already has "site:nitrateville.com" entered:
