Das Mädchen ohne Heimat (1927)

PostSun Apr 17, 2011 4:20 am

Does anyone know anything about the 1927 film "Das Mädchen ohne Heimat"?

I've got five reels of it on nitrate, which includes the beginning and, if not the very end, at least close to it (there's no end card, but the film seems to reach a conclusion).

It came from a German language theatre in New York, still in its shipping crate.

The film is not listed on www.lost-films.eu so it most likely still exists. You can also post pictures of your print on that site for identification. You could also contact a German archive, e.g. www.deutsches-filminstitut.de.

You can find some information on www.filmportal.de

http://www.filmportal.de/df/b9/Credits, ... ,,,,,.html

I'm afraid this film not being listed on the Lost Films site does not automatically mean that it exists.

Yes, the Lost Films site is still a rather small sampling, so if you know of lost films that aren't listed, you might want to help out and add them. I've been adding the lost films of Norma Talmadge and Pauline Frederick and most of those weren't listed.

Here's the first scene. Interesting that, although the actors are right, none of the character names match those listed on IMDb or filmportal.de. Perhaps the domestic and export versions differed? The titles are printed on entirely different film stock and spliced in (quite poorly).

Judging from the character names in the intertitles (Franzl, Fritzl, Gretl) and the local dialect ("soll'n ma," "ans am Weg"), I'd guess that this print was generated for an Austrian release.

Or the story takes place in Bavaria.

That's true, it might. I was just trying to account for the differences in the character names from those posted on the IMDb and filmportal.de.

Hello,
Do you still have the pictures from this film?
The links on the previous post seem to be dead now.

The pictures are still there, but I had to "right-click" on each one and select "load in a new tab" or "load in a new window" to see them.

For some reason it tells me "403 - Forbidden", but managed to see them via Google Cache...
I was specifically looking to see Helen von Münchhofen, but sadly she is not in any of these frames...

I was able to look at the photos from it's directory here

http://www.harpodeon.com/unknownfilm" target="_blank" target="_blank

Edit: Ok, this link aint working to well, BUT, I found a way to get around it. When the address comes up in your browser, just delete the last "/" and then press enter and you'll get a page which has links to all the individual pics.

here's one as proof
