I've been watching his listings for some weeks now and he just keeps listing new titles. He must have obtained a unique and huge collection.
I've bid on one or two of them, but never won (i'm able to play them 'cause I've got a 28mm projector). _________________ ________________________________________

I have seen the odd 28mm film sold on eBay but never so many at the same time. I also thought that they may be the same seller but they are not. It looks like both of these sellers have found large collections of these films or possibly got them from the same source.
One buyer has bought almost all of these films and I have no idea as to what he intends on doing with them. He has already spent a few thousand as he usually will bid over $100 per film. So far he has probably bought a few dozen. I know of only a few that he was outbid on, the Harold Lloyd film, THE TIP (1918) and OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS AND FOES which I bought, and a few others. I really wonder if he is a serious 28mm collector or if he plans on copying them on DVD. Since most of these films are educational or documentary in nature, I doubt if there would be much of an audience for them.
The condition of the film that I bought was good but the mothball-like smell almost knocked me over when I opened the parcel in my bedroom. I had to open my window and air the room out. I had no idea that any old film could smell so bad. |

| I suspected at first that there was one seller and then I saw that their shipping rates to Canada were different so I thought that they must be different people. Now they are charging the same for postage so you are probably right, they must be the same seller. |

The two sellers are friends who each bought their own stake of the collection from some old estate. _________________ http://cartoonsonfilm.com |

I have some period announcements for that one. I didn't get it as I can't afford all the live-action Bray stuff but I'd love to see it as well. _________________ http://cartoonsonfilm.com |

Great news! I would be very happy if at least one Wallace Carlson title turns up in this collection.

Well Hello Everyone,
Thought I would pop in and say Hello. ^_^
These are two gentlemen, who ended up buying a large collection of
film out of Missouri, I think. The original group coming out of the
Chicago some 60 years earlier. This was a large group of film from
what I can gather from the one seller. So large as they could not
transport all it at once trip. They have, as far as I can guess, been
selling this collection for over a year. Shame I missed the earlier
auctions.
Film condition is really a problem, the camphore smell is rather strong.
Quite a bit of base rot, that is going to show up as shrinkage, but
I do not know how much. This applies to the three and three sprocket
film of Kodak make. The three and one Pathe stock is far worse,
as it seems to have something across a camphore and vinegar smell.
Also some of the Pathe film has a wet greasy feeling to the film.
All the film needs a good cleaning. As for projection of the film, some
of the Kodak stock would project fine from what I have seen. None
of the Pathe would without major repair to the stressed out sprocket
holes.
Off to work now I shall write back I hope later today.

I'll second that they all need a good cleaning...particularly with the rusty nature of most of the reels and cans. The base looks to have held up pretty well on all the ones I've inspected and there is some shrinkage which is to be expected of 90 year old prints. Other than that, a fine bunch of films! _________________ http://cartoonsonfilm.com |

Tom,
You are right on the money. Those reels and cans are way rusty. I newest
hobby is making film cores to store the film. As for the base holding up
the Kodak stock is by far the best. The Pathe has its problems though.
So far I have gotten a few that were fine, but one was actually wet and
greasy feeling and another has sever warp to the film. Other than that
I have been most pleased with my newest thing to keep me in the poor
house.
I have been trying go get as much as I can afford as there is always a
plan. I hope sometime here soon to try out a small project and get
one of the films scanned, digitally corrected and put up on You Tube
for everyone to enjoy. But since this is the first go around for this I
do not know how long that shall take.
I think for the first try it is going to be "A Ten-Karat Hero". I am going
to start asking archives through e-mail if they have a copy first. But
so far its survial status is in question beside this damaged print.
Which by the way the original was 355.97 feet in lenght. I have on this
copy which is missing its start and has quite a few jump splices about
275 feet remaining. Please note that both of those numbers have
been converted to 35mm standard. So 81 seconds are lost. (
But that is the plan. I do not want to be one of those who just talk a
good game, I want to make a difference. So here I go on a grand
adventure in film preservation. So much for my nice neat hobby of
16mm movies. Time to get into the trenches. ^_^

| In my film collecting days, I had many old 16mm and 35mm silents on early safety stock, which was either di-acetate or tri-acetate, which has that odor. |

Quite a few of us have been having some success with putting camphor in the cans with VS and/or shrunken film. _________________ www.silentfilmmusic.com |
