Tweet Palo Alto, CA: Stanford Theatre Spring 2010 program

The Stanford Theatre has announced their program for April 3 - June 18. The theme is "Classic Hollywood in the Golden Age" and it is, in my opinion, more interesting than the recent twentieth anniversary program (though still primarily reasonably common films). Some of the highlights for me are:

Dodsworth & Make Way for Tomorrow (Apr 7-9)
Genevieve & Green for Danger (May 12-14)
Love Me Tonight & Trouble in Paradise (May 15-18)
Follow Thru & Wake Up and Live (May 26-28)

Follow Thru is my favorite two color Technicolor film and I am looking forward to the chance to see it again.

Ooh! Ooh! Love Me Tonight AND Trouble in Paradise.

In A Song in the Dark,

... smooth technique, relaxed romantic comedy, and a great deal of fun. Carroll's red hair and green eyes made her perfect for early Technicolor ... she and Rogers make as sweet a team as ever appeared in a medium-grade musical ... The secondary pair, direct from Broadway, is just as good, for Jack Haley and Zelma O'Neal are an ideal match - he simpy and sarcastic, she foghorned and feisty.

Happily, unlike many early Technicolor musicals, it survives in a beautiful restoration from the UCLA archive. The one big production number, "I Want to Be Bad", is must-see.
