Hi from Down Under

PostTue Oct 26, 2010 3:02 pm

Just saying "hi". Great site - lot's of interesting stuff to read. I'm keeping it short and simple this time - my first post a few days ago was rejected because of "usage of forbidden word" (?), and has vanished without trace. Never mind. Hope this works.

Sorry, the spam catcher caught it. I'll approve it (presumably) and you'll be free from its clutches in the future.

I also had trouble with the `forbidden word' glitch when I first tried to register with the site. I only wanted to register as `Madame Mystery' - I didn't think that was too risque! Perhaps an over-sensitive filter.

Thanks for the welcome brooksie.

I had no trouble registering, but when my very first post came back as using "forbidden" words, I was quite intrigued. After all, English is my native language 8) . If the offending word(s) had been highlighted - eg. kangaroo, video, aussie, etc  I could have corrected them. Never mind - once my post is "de-spammed", I'm sure it will appear sooner or later. If not, I'll try and re-post it.

"Madame Mystery" is a totally different kettle of fish..........

Here's the thing. It's not just looking for offending words (though it will do things like bounce a post that contains "analytical" because of the first four letters) but it's also looking for signs that you're a spammer. So a reference to "credits" is interpreted as a sign that you have a site selling something and taking credit cards, for instance.

As noted, once past two posts, it leaves you alone, so it's a minor annoyance compared to the alternative, which is the site getting spammed with hardcore pornography a few times a day.

Ah, well there you have it. Sheer pornography.
