In the early 90's, I purchased an entire photo collection from a fan of silents/classic Hollywood. I'm still trying to go through some of the photos I have (there were several hundred) but trying to find out the year and what film they were from. If anyone happens to know what year these photos were from and what film or short, can you please let me know. I appreciate any help that any can give me.

The second from the top is from "Men O'War" (1929), a Laurel and Hardy two-reel short from the Hal Roach Studios. The brunette is Anne Cornwall and the blond is Gloria Greer.

3 - I want to say Constance Bennett but not sure; hat style c. 1929-30

4 - Our Gang? Looks like Buckwheat at right; mid-30s

5 - Judy Garland

6 - Johnny Weissmuller & Maureen O'Sullivan (one of the TARZAN films, c. 1932-36)

7 - Marlene Dietrich - looks like 1936-37 but I don't recognize the still as being from a particular film

8 - Basil Rathbone (one of the SHERLOCK HOLMES series, many films, 1940s)

9 - Joan Crawford (1950s)

10 - Our Gang and ??

11 - Chaplin (MODERN TIMES, 1936)

12 - Mary Pickford (late teens)

3# looks like Carole Lombard to me....

Number 10 is the Our Gang kids visiting the set of Columbia's "Pennies From Heaven" in 1936, starring Bing Crosby and OG alum Edith Fellows (in sailor hat).

#3 is Carole Lombard in "Safety in Numbers" (Paramount, 1930)

#6 Given the pose, this shot is unlikely later than 1934 and is probably from "Tarzan and His Mate"

#7 the Dietrich portrait is likely from "Angel" (1937)

#12 This Pickford still is early Famous Players--1913 or 1914

#4 The girl in wearing the sailor hat is Edith Fellowes

8 - Basil Rathbone ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES 1939

10 - Our Gang and Bing Crosby. The gang was obviously visiting pal and former Roach kiddie Edith Fellows on the set of PENNIES FROM HEAVEN.

The Joan Crawford shot is from Rain, and that's Rudy with Vilma Banky from Son of the Sheik. The Bette Davis looks from about the same time period as Dangerous.

The Marion Davies looks like 1933 ish from Going Hollywood.....

The Carole Lombard in the first set is from the film SAFETY IN NUMBERS.

The Crawford-Gable is from CHAINED.

The last still looks like a Grauman's footprint ceremony, and Sid Grauman stands behind the Brothers.

The Our Gang photo in the first set where Buckwheat is presenting flowers to a little girl is from UNEXPECTED RICHES I believe.

The Pickford in the first set is from Caprice (1913); the Crawford/Gable in the second set is from Chained (1934).

Was someone blind or simply lax at the MPAA at the fact that you can see Ms. Crawford's bosom through her dress? Or is that shot pre-code?

#4 in the second set is Laurel & Hardy in their 1927 silent short, The Second Hundred Years. #5 is L&H in their talkie 1930 short Hog Wild (my favorite of their talkie shorts).

Does anyone happen to know what date this Laurel & Hardy photo was for and if it was used for a film?

It appears to be a still taken on the set of:

Flash Gordon: Space Soldiers
Chapter Seven: Shattering Doom
About 2 hours and 5 minutes into this DVD

I don't see any place in the chapter where the spear is in Flash's hands in exactly that way, but people are about in the same positions.

Your photo is a lot darker than the DVD, making Dale's robe look black, when it is really gray.

That is the first thing I noticed that one, also.

We had it posted along with others on the wall at our Turner Entertainment offices. I forget what film it related to, but this particular costume did not appear in it, thus no MPAA relationship.

Ditto for the L&H still from "Hog Wild," which appears to be a posed shot.

Hardy's wife does not appear in this segment of the short (she stayed in the house, where she was subjected to falling plaster and fireplace soot). SETH
