PostSun Mar 20, 2011 5:09 pm

A 25 piece Jazz orchestra with special score for Mabel's UPSTAIRS - In the Washington DC Herald dated August 10, 1919 is an article about the music used in UPSTAIRS (Goldwyn 1919)…. I would love to find the score… of course, I would also love to find the film! http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/upsta ... herald.htm

The Morals Efficiency Committe of Los Angeles 1915

PostThu Mar 31, 2011 3:41 pm

Robert C. Barton, executive secretary of the Morals Efficiency Committee of Los Angeles made Mabel Normand mad and she wrote about her sense of “morality” and what she knew about others in her industry... in an article in the Day Book, August 13, 1915, here is the link http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/1915moralscommittee.htm

I just uploaded 50 pictures from Slim Princess (Goldwyn 1920) to Looking for Mabel; awhile ago I did a post about this lost feature but thought an album might be of interest.

1964 sale of Sennett Films

PostSun Apr 17, 2011 10:04 pm

The films of Sennett and Griffith are now in public domain; their ownership is not in dispute, the purchase of rights is long gone. It is copies of the actual reels that interests me; where are the 200+ prints now? I found information on the purchase for just under $100,000 to Jay Ward.

1922 Mabel Normand trip to Europe

PostMon May 16, 2011 12:15 am

Part 3 of Mabel Normand trip to Europe is done !!
http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/mabels1922trippart3.htmThe1922 trip Mabel made to Europe, the people she met and the places she went. A number of the individuals were of literary note and a little about some of them are in part 3. I have already done 2 parts of this trip and plan to spend some time on her interaction with the people of England (the royals and the commoners) and than move her to Paris and her prince and the races and the gambling and the ‘shopping’ and than there is the trip home and the problems with her PR man and her going back for Christmas and the trip home with Pola and the return to US to make “the Extra Girl”

Hall Caine, featured in Part 3, is a largely forgotten figure nowdays. He was also the author of "The Manxsman".

Filmed in 1929, probably only the fact that it was one A Hitchcock who directed it, keeps this film available to view on DVD.

John Ince - Tom Ince - Ralph Ince plus Bertha too

PostWed May 25, 2011 5:27 am

The Ince family is just too opulent and impressive not to spend some time with obviously, this is a rather superficial view of the Ince Brothers (and Bertha, too) they deserve more than just a post. I have additional information to share if anyone is writing a book about them, after all there is more to tell than just a death of the middle son. http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/ince.htm

Mack Sennett Sheet Music "HELP! HELP! MR. SENNETT

PostSat Jun 25, 2011 2:16 am

Help! Help! Mr. Sennett (I'm Drowning in a Sea of Love) by Ray Perkins (composer lyricist) which is dedicated to Mack Sennett and His Bathing Girls. It is from 1919 and the lyrics are a delight. It is only a little Off Topic as Mabel was never officially a Bathing Beauty http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/helpmrsennettmusic.htmHELP MR SENNETT MUSIC

Marvelous Site Marilyn

PostWed Jul 13, 2011 9:05 pm

Big Mabel fan here.

Had a few minutes to stumble around the net and from this thread I landed on your page about the Elephant Made of Walnuts ... ?

Just had to take a moment to "step inside" and say great job. The research, the story-telling ... and the COLOR pix ! LOVED those.

It's so fun to stumble onto a site where somebody has taken the time to post some details (WITH documentation) about a Hollywood-related personality, event or trivia. (And the results are GOOD, that is.)

The last one I really liked was ostensibly about a guy named Jack Donovan who built homes in Santa Monica but which also provided a fascinating glimpse of what Mae Murray was like :

http://paradiseleased.wordpress.com/201 ... lt-part-i/

(And no, not my site nor am I trying to drum up business ... just found it fun, author writes well and knows how to format a page.)

One last kinda thing ... slightly odd ... as I was reading about the elephant, a song started going through my head ... very faint at first ... a Beatles tune ... ? ... coming from the elephant ... ?

All I could make out was "... I'm made of walnuts ... goo goo ga joob ... "

I know ... I've heard it before: "Hmm, that sounds really interesting ... to you."

Thanks again for the elephant -- well done -- and I'll check out Looking For Mabel when I have more time.

paintings of the stars

PostMon Jul 18, 2011 2:36 am

There are about 40 paintings that were used as magazine cover in the 2011 photo album at Looking-for-Mabel; you can see them by going to the Recently Added page. Some of these you may already know but frankly a number are new to me. I haven’t always been able to identify the artist, so if you know who did the images, please let me know. http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/apps/photos/recently-added
