Hollywood's History with Movie Museums

PostMon Oct 17, 2011 8:26 am

Here is a piece I wrote about Hollywood's history in trying to establish movie museums in Hollywood and Culver City. There have been some interesting attempts, going all the way back to 1927:

There was also some talk of a museum at the Chaplin lot around the time it was sold in the 1950s, but they decided it would interfere too much with the ordinary workings of the studio. A rotten shame.

Nothing about a possible museum at the Chaplin studio came up in my research of the Los Angeles Times or Daily Variety.

It's mentioned in a newspaper article I found from 1954, when the studio was bought by Kling (it's available online at http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/57280539).

I can't bear to read it without wondering what became of all those props that were still there ...
