Re: Sept 15 1918 Cover of Wids

PostFri Aug 05, 2011 9:17 pm

Wids Daily (my favorite magazine) used Mabel Normand on their September 15, 1918 cover. It is a gift to all of us from John Raymond Armijo at the New Mexico Film Office; it has been added to the album of magazine cover at:

Re: Wid's Daily pictures

While going though the Wid’s Daily I located a couple of wonderful group pictures of early film making companies. Although these were “pre-Mabel” they were very much the foundation of Hollywood, this is just a little Off Topic, here is the direct link http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/earlyfilmcompanies.htm

I was going through some old newspapers from 1914 and found an advertisement for a 2 reel comedy called The New York Girl. I looked in MNSB and didn’t see anything that might have been this one…it is listed in Brent Walker’s book. He writes the working title was “The Elopement.” His book has it listed as filmed June 29, 1914 – July 16, 1914; release date of August 6. Do you know this comedy, perhaps under a different name?

In May 1930, Photoplay published a ‘poem’ by Margaret E. Sangster titled “Mabel Normand”. Sometimes I need to be remained that time has not made Mabel’s memory shine with the polish that years sometimes create; Mabel has always been the woman Margaret Sangster understood her to be…and I think she is…

Mabel Normand was an illustrator’s model before she turned to posing before a movie camera. Here an image of Mabel on a Coca Cola tin before she was MABEL NORMAND

Re: Hugo the 2011 movie by Scorsese - Melies' magic

PostSat Nov 19, 2011 2:32 am

Mary Mallory sent a note regarding an interview done on ALL THINGS CONSIDERED (NPR) by Melissa Block with Martin Scorsese’ about his movie HUGO, I have posted the transcript at Looking for Mabel. Scorsese explains the telling of a story of George Melies, the toy maker and maker of movie magic (and it is a 3-D movie)!!!

Re: What Mabel shared with Jackie Saunders

With all the talk of the items of Debbie Reynolds auction; do you remembered the post at Looking for Mabel from a couple of years ago? It was about some of Mabel Normand personal things that were donated by my guardian? I helped boxed the items and the agreement that was signed stated that the material would NOT be sold and would become part of the core collection of the Hollywood Museum the Los Angeles City Council was planning…but the museum never came about so the Mabel Normand collection is in limbo and right now they are on loan to the FIDM, I was invited to check out the items and took a few photos at their archive. http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/jackiesaunders.htm

Charles Dana Gibson used Mabel Normand as one of his models before Mabel went in the movies.
