If Indiana Jones was set to our actual time... he would found the holly grail and the lost ark on eBay.

A modern silent film, like The Artist, could start like a centenary man foundind a copy of his own films on eBay, and we would be transported to the past by his remamberences estimulated by watching the old print.

DRAT! Don't know how I missed that one!
I've been collecting fragments for years.
But that's OK as I wouldn't have bid on that lot,
not enough comedy!
Looks like a Lionel Barrymore in there too.

Thanks for the heads up,

One question:

When you collect nitrate reels and fragments, do you try to find if the fragment have a lost scene from the film, or a better image quality ?

I think internet could have a service to make this easy. A site about film preservation when one section to people send images of footage, like a frame photographed in a light table, and the film restorers and archivists would check if it worth to check it closer.

There's already an AMIA site that does this, and you don't have to be an AMIA archivist to submit a photo.
