1 - DADDY LONG LEGS
2 - SPARROWS
3 - THROUGH THE BACK DOOR

I'm pleased to see a few others have mentioned #3, it appears to be the most underrated Pickford film and not seen by even many silent movie buffs even though it was released on DVD in the last decade.

Hard to limit it to three as I feel Mary made the largest number of truly enjoyable silent movies of any actress.

In honor of her birthday today, I'll recommend an underrated classic of hers

Suds(1920)

Pickford plays a cockney busting her bum at a french laundromat in London. She grows an obsession over a man and she happens to have his shirt. It's a pretty strange film and she doesn't automatically come off as totally right in the head, but you can't help but feel for the character. The very dark steamy look of the laundromat is just one of the amazing sets that were designed and did I mention there's a sidekick horse named Lavender? I'm not sure if this film did as well as her other films but I think she didn't have any ill words to say about the experience.

Suds is not my favorite Pickford by a long shot, but the scene with the horse in her apartment is amazing. BTW, does anyone have a release date for the Milestone Pickford box set?

Bob,

:o Dennis originally said it would be out in May. Last I heard it was going to be sometime in June.

Happy belated b-day Mary.
I, too was very impressed by Suds. It was the beginning of my starting to "get" Mary. It was completed with "Stella Maris">

Dennis has the DVDs and BluRays test discs at home to approve before they go to press. HOWEVER, with COME BACK, AFRICA still in its theatrical run, THE CONNECTION opening on May 4th, BABY PEGGY (the doc) to get launched and four other restorations in the works -- and with a variable or two I won't discuss -- we've put off the release a few months to give us time to properly release and promote Mary. Sorry, people, but we have to do this right.
