:? No, most of my stuff is not hosted on Photobucket. It is either from TCM-CFU or GAOH. Shouldn't have anything to do with the images loading or not on the page.

Ah, okay then...

Well, enough chit-chat...
Time to post more colorized pics...

Image
Clara gettin' ready to "get her man"...
I have multiple issues with this one. Her lipstick looks too bright. Not to mention some pink in the lower right-hand corner. Don't know how that got there? :?

Image
Gracious! What a risque looking outfit!:lol:
Edit: Aw, dang! Forgot to color her gums!

Image
Whoops! Messed up in the continuancy of Norma's dress. The top is gold yet magically turns red!

Image
I take slight issue with Theda's purple drape...

Image
Whoa! Poor Ollie looks deathly pale!

Image
I can just imagine Betty saying, "Here's lookin' at you, kid!"

It's Clara's Wedding Night in this one! (At least, I think it is...)

Image

Hey! Enough with all the Hoop-la!

Image

Say, am I allowed to post pics of Clara in the "Snake-Hips" outfit from "Hoop-la"? Because I'm not sure about the policy and don't wanna get in trouble... :?

SteppenBow59,

That Clara Glancing over her shoulder smiling is terrific!

Bob,

:D Glad you both like the Norma. Funny, I worked on that photo several weeks ago. Never posted it here before. Wasn't satisfied as I thought I made a couple key mistakes on the outfit.

Lo, the pages are mounting fast! I have a Gish, but need to shrink it down in size first before I can post here. It's gigantic!

SteppenBow,

I just completed several Bebes for my new book. Here's an original postcard and my color transfer. I wonder how Bebe would look in alabaster?

And here's a glass slide I posted some time ago. A good caracature of Bebe:

Very nice Bebe, in fact I like your rendition better than my own. Don't worry about the "airhead" thing. You can't post on N'ville for very long w/o some mishap. That's why they set up Gagman and myself over here away from the other folks! SteppanBow, if you really want to do some more Bebe photos I think I can dig up a few for you.

:o Lets see if anyone can guess the identity of the beautiful, yet mysterious "Riddle Cat'? That is the question. With her ruby red lips, eyes of blue and golden mane, men are simply purring to meet her. This image is cropped from a 1926 lobby-card. There are at least three of them that show the same image. The film is probably lost.

Steppenbow59,

:? Appears as if poor Janet tumbled from the latter and crashed landed on an unsuspecting boy. Of course if some gal as cute as Janet Gaynor toppled out of the sky on you, most guys probably wouldn't complain to much. Or maybe he was scurrying up the latter with her and they both slipped and sprawled to the ground? This film is probably lost so we may never know how the sequence went. If it was even kept in the completed production.

More Magnificent Dolores Del Rio Lobby-cards! I think REVENGE is lost. But RAMONA (1928) a legit Blockbuster at the time, long lost, is found and being restored by the Library of Congress. In-fact the project may even be completed by now. Maybe we will get an update on these boards soon? I sure hope so.

My colorizations for the day.

Mary Brian:

Phyllis Haver:

While this is a completely random question, I just have to know:
I've always pronounced Renée Adorée's name as ruh-NAY add-er-AY. Am I pronouncing it right?

Also, sorry about the heavy eye make-up on Joby, but that's what the original monochrome had.

Don't know the answer to your question, but that's the way I always pronounced it.

Joby actually looks really good, heavy eye makeup is not out of line.

Could you spare Mary #2 a couple of pints of blood? This isn't a Helen Chandler portrait.

SteppenBow59,

:o Yes, that is how you pronounce her last name I believe, Add-er-AY. Or Ador-ray It is not Adore-Ray I don't think. Even though that is how it was said in the Anna May Wong Documentary. However, her first name Ruh-NAY, I have also heard pronounced several times as RAIN-NEE. Or even RAINY. Especially, in older sources. I would like to know which is correct? Especially, since I have always called her Ruh-Nay just as you do.

This particular Bow-ite (and a hardcore one, to boot) would be more than happy to Clara-fy it. Oh, and no, it's not connected with a film (as far as I remember, anyway).
How do you want me to Clara-fy it? As in brighten it just a tad?

OK, that helps but is this a particularly rare photo? Feel free to do a color transfer if you are so inclined.

I'm not sure about the rarity of the photo. Sure seems to have been a helluva publicity shot series, though. I've got a few more Chinese Claras. I even have a Chinese Warrior Clara! This most likely isn't what you were hoping for, but here's one I already have.
It's slightly brighter than yours. The bottom seems to be a little more cropped than yours, though. Where did you get yours? I got mine on the Clara Bow Archive on Tumblr.

Martie, mine is a scan from 2 and a half x 3 inch negative. I adjusted the contrast, brightness, etc. so if you feel it;s too dark I can fix that easily enough. how's this?

Image

Regardless, I encourage you to move beyond coloring just head shots. The process becomes more involved but the results are more impressive. Just remember that you don't have to color everything.

:) Here is another interesting still. Again apparently not for any one particular film.

And with William Haines in costume as Jack And Jill. Whoops, did Marion lose her bloomers there?

The transfusion is a success! Ah, but Mary appears to have overused Latisse and the side effects kicked in. Damn that Claire Danes. If you read some gossip mags from the mid '20s through the '30s more of her was as she said of her age, negotiable. Her eyes were either blue or hazel depending on when the information was printed. You'd think they'd settle on one color, but apparently not. Magazine cover art seems to lean toward blue and I'm sure someone here has a definitive answer.

As an aside I still don't know if she was 5'0" or 5'2". Hardly matters, anyone who was smaller than my mother (5'3-1/2") was really petite. Similarly, there are a few other players of the era I find differing heights for who weren't really children when they started in Hollywood.

The Clara pic looks like a challenge, good luck!
