Guess what film these stills are from.

PostMon Apr 30, 2012 6:11 pm

Hi all, found these two original stills in a Salvation Army shop a few years ago. These are off set production stills from a Hollywood film from the 1920's with detailed captions stuck to the back. Can anyone guess the name of the film, the shooting location and the actor riding in the coach? I had another still with the main star in it but I seem to have lost it.

PS, any one who wants them can have them for the price of postage from Australia via Paypal. PM me.

I'll take a wild stab at Chaplin visiting Fairbanks on the set of Mark Of Zorro......if so, nice pics.....
I could use some digital restoration myself...

I thought that at first, but it isn't MGMP but MPGP....United Artists...

MGPG is a MGM general publicity code. I am going to say that's Ramon Navarro in the carriage.

Excuse me, MPGP is a general publicity code for MGM from the late 1920s.

Thanks all, no one really got too close yet. Here are a few clues. These scenes were filmed in Spain but not Valencia. The film starred one of the big female stars of the silent era who tragically died young. The male actor was a leading man of the time who later became a character actor in the talkie period.

Well done. Now can you guess the name of the actor and the town where The Bandolero was filmed filmed. There is a curious connection between the two.

My bad....I hadn't come across a Metro code that early (It's early 20's as we now know). Some United Artists codes start MP, presumably a reference to Mary Pickford.

That must be Gustav von Seyffertitz in the carriage, and Pedro de Cordova was the male star. Did they film in Sevilla?

Getting closer. The male actor was making a home coming of sorts.

You keep taking us even further into obscurity land because those are the only names anyone knows. It must be Ruerba in the carriage, but who cares? Just go ahead and reveal everything to us.

OK, it's Pedro De Cordova's homecoming to his ancestral home town of Cordova.
