Vanity Fair: Paramount's 100th Anniversary Photo

PostWed Jun 13, 2012 6:28 am

I'm bad at links, so all I can say is visit vanityfair.com for a spectacular group photo, though I qualify that because about 10% of the alleged stars on view are probably of a most transistory 20s-something nature (prove me wrong, kids!). Legends are on view: Ernest Borgnine, Kirk Douglas, Shirley McLaine and even Jerry Lewis. Also DeNiro, Nicholson, Ford, Spielberg, Scorsese, DiCaprio etc. Even Ryan O'Neal and Ali McGraw. Where's Redford? Pacino? Ah, there's Hoffman. Some of the stars have tenuous Paramount connections (Mickey Rooney?). Where's Lizbeth Scott?! Some of the younger people I never heard of, but I doubt if they're in movies I'd gravitate to. This photo echoes a 75th anniversary photo of Paramount stars taken, I believe, by Life magazine in 1987. Buddy Rogers and a ton of other old timers were present, so many gone now of course.

Here is the link from Deadline.com. The photo includes directors as well, such as David Lynch, Tony Scott, Ivan Reitman, John Landis, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Gore Verbinski, etc.

Also see Robert Evans, Sumner Redstone, and Brad Grey, as well as many of the Star Trek crew over the years.

I was amazed how many times I had to use the mouse to tell me who this and that person was - and then I had to go to IMDb to find out who they were

I agree there's a lot of "of the moment" people in there that usually aren't included in groups like this. There's a model in it who's been in all of ONE film!

A more memorable Paramount "reunion" was photographed by Life Magazine back in 1987 with Elizabeth Taylor, Burt Lancaster, Dorothy Lamour, Joel McCrea, Olivia De Havilland, Bob Hope, Jane Russell, Martha Raye, Dana Andrews, Janet Leigh, Tony Perkins, and scores of others. I think there were about 80 people there. The "newest" names were hot new stars like Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner, and some tv people that had been on hit Paramount shows for several seasons all who had proved their ties to Paramount.

I was quite surprised I actually knew more than five of them! (Mind you they were the ones with either no hair or white hair :D ). But, as to Alexandjo Gonzales Watzagibble?

Now, if you had given me a 1935 photo I might have known all of them.

Oh the joys of growing old disgracefully.
Silents Please!

Wow, some of those rows have far higher survivor rates than others. The first row is evenly divided. Eerie.

What do you mean? I don't think there's a deceased person in the photo that passed away before seventy, indeed the overwhelming majority of them made it into their eighties which is pretty amazing given that is a longer than normal lifespan.
