Bob,

:o I'm sure this will be a new page. Oh yeah, your pic of an older Jolson and friends was great.

Here are some Lobby-Cards of Lost films that you will enjoy. They are not Colorized. Oh my Gosh, Betty Bronson on that Buckboard! Is she the cutest thing that ever lived or what? Lo, was Norma really that Tiny?

I wouldn't have known that was Norma in the Poppy still if it didn't say so. The Outside the Law poster was pretty clever. Betty really does look cute! She looks like a 12 year old there.

Still can't transfer. I think I'll post from another computer.

Martie,

:) Did you see the Betty Compson with Legs up in the air on the previous page? I thought I posted this one before. Couldn't find it so maybe not. A 1925 Portrait of Marion Davies. It's a little grainy due to the news print.

Caesar,

:) I like it for the most part. Great still. I have several lobby's for Dr. Jack as well. I'll look them up. Mildred as "The Sick Little Well Gil", an obvious good natured play on former Lloyd leading Lady Bebe Daniel's nickname of "The Good Little Bad Girl", though the fact is probably largely lost on modern audiences.

My Thanks to Jorge for finding these rare lobby-cards.

Don't expect any new colorizations for a while - I'm sick as a dog with a fever of 101. In other words, I couldn't make that Memorial Day colorization or transfer my colorization pics to another computer. But, don't be deterred - I will pull through!

I've neglected this thread so here's a few new ones I worked on for the next Old Hollywood in Color book.

This photo originates from a substandard source but it is noteworthy historically - the Lux Radio Theater cast of MADAME SANS GENE rehearsing on December 14, 1936, Robt Taylor, Jean Harlow, Claude Rains and C. Henry Gordon:

Bob,

:D Wow! Spectacular work. I'm not sure about the purple carpet in the last photo, but everything else looks terrific. Haven't been on the boards much at all either. Illness in the immediate family.

Here are three nice portraits of Doug and Mary I have not posted here in this thread. They are from 1922 and 1927 respectively. Also a unique La' Swanson still. Given past threads, this one ought to be pretty popular here.

Gagman,
I like the improvements to Bebe's night gown. The improvements to the Dr. Jack still are good too. Now, here are Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante enjoying the perks of stardom:

Bob,

:) Great stuff. I really like the Wally Reid and Valentino. The other one was sort of a grainy image to start with and I know how hard those are to work with. have a fabulous shot of Renee Adoree in evening gown that is like that. Wish I could find a higher resolution version of the same photo.

Haven't posted anything in a while these are new to the thread.

Bob, Caesar, Martie, Etc,

:o Not much going on here right now. This still shows Corinne Griffith with a Blonde, livening up the party. It looks to be Gwen Lee, or maybe Getrude Astor? I can't really tell for sure. Any other ideas? The graphic is very soft. Not as sharp as I would like. Maybe there is a better monochrome version out their someplace. Don't know what movie this is from.

I'm back after being gone from this thread for way too long.
My fever got worse (it once reached 105! :!: ) and lasted over a week, so we had to grit our teeth and get antibiotics, but I'm perfectly fine now. Then, we got very busy at home.
Well. anyway, the point of this post is not to discuss my personal woes and misfortunes, but to post my colorizations. Here goes:
Image
Clara Bow. Notice how her beautymark is in the shape of a star!
Image
Alice White
Image
Pretty sure this is Billie Burke.
I did these all in my alabaster style, and I think their skin is a little too pale.

That's all I'll post for today, I've learned to "save" other colorizations for next time.
Also, as a side note, I progressed in maturity on June 3rd. Too bad this wasn't waiting for me on the dining room table.

With July 4th coming upon us once more, I thought I'd do a little flag-waving on the Old Hollywood in Color site by posting the radio version of YANKEE DOODLE DANDY (1942) that includes most of the film's cast including "FDR." The color transfers were easy because I'm using mostly lobby cards in their original color but here are two b/w that I did especially for the occasion.

Image
Joan Leslie and James Cagney try to sell "Harrigan" to unimpressed song publishers

Cagney worked hard to imitate the facial gestures and tics of the real George M. Cohan, including Cohan's habit of talking out of the side of his mouth. Compare Cagney's facial expression above to this photo of the real George M. below:

That pic of Jetta looks nice. I really like the way you did her outfit.

Here's Greta Garbo.

I tried to make her hair more strawberry-blonde. Her eyes were blue, right?

Here's Pola Negri. I think I made her eyes too light-brown.

I started over on the Naldi pic. Her eyes are green in this one.

Martie,

:o That Garbo is new to me. Are you sure that first one is Pola? Never saw her with that long of a face before. The second one doesn't seem to have much color to it. Nita's eyes were green. Finally the Sadie Thompson poster loaded. Looks great. It wouldn't link last night. Several of these I was not able to view.

I guess it's been a while since I've posted anything. I saw "The Phantom President" last year and thought that if I didn't know any better I would be thinking that George M. Cohan was trying to imitate Cagney.
Here's a photo of Doug and Mary that I acquired a little while ago. I tried adding a little brown to the fox terrier's face (according to the press snipe, the name of the dog was Zorro btw), but I never got the coloring to look right. Having just seen "The Artist," I have to wonder if Zorro served as an inspiration to Uggie.

Little Caesar,

Great photo and I like the muted colors. Does anybody notice that before Doug became a producer with UA, he flashed his "million dollar" smile in just about every candid photo? But once he became a film executive, he adopted a more serious, indeed dour expression. This photo is a good example of "I'm important." If that's not what he's thinking, then what's going on? I like the pre-ZORRO Doug but after UA he adopted a different attitude, which Pickford herself noted in her "as told to" autobio.

The staircase looks familiar and I realized why. Here it is some years later (I've posted this photo before) obviously redone in what might be called "post-Fairbanks."

Thanks for the observations, Bob. I've wondered when this photo was taken. Sadly, the original press snipe is somewhat tattered, and I can't get much info from that (aside from the name of the dog).
I went back this morning and added a little brown to Zorro. I had a fox terrier while I was growing up (he died a few years ago at the ripe old age of 16), and I must admit that was the main reason why I wanted this photo (granted, I am a fan of Doug and Mary too).
