Louie, is "Thalia" possibly "Italia" or "Ytalia"? The 1930 US census has a Venezia Frandi, recorded age 28, and an Italia Frandi, age 26, living in Los Angeles. Birthplace, Spain; occupation for both, "extra actress".
In any case, that's a great raft of photos there, your blog is a bounty of wonders. |

Wow, Ian. Just WOW! You may certainly be correct. I asked a few friends what her name appeared to be on the back of the photos and we all agreed "Thalia" but there was never a feeling of certainty with me. Here is how her name appears:
Looking at the name now, it appears you may be right. What do you think? _________________ www.louiedespres.com

Ian is right. Ian's identification from your description is amazing. Ian is Da Bomb.

| The photograph of Venezia with Charles Meredith is probably on the set of "In Hollywood with Potash and Perlmutter" (aka "So This Is Hollywood" in UK) released in 1924, directed by Alfred Green. |

What am I chopped liver ? I still think it looks like someone who looks like him...I wondered if maybe it was Ricardo Cortez. Do you know what year it was taken?
Another reason Im not convinced its him: the costume. It could be something unseen from the lost "A Sainted Devil" but I still dont think so. Something is just a bit off about it to be him. |
I got it, I got it, but you're answer was kinda vague and you didn't know for sure, so I left it up in the air for now. _________________ www.louiedespres.com

| That is definitely NOT Valentino in the other photograph. (Frankly, it looks as much like David Butler as anyone. There's another photo with her in it with him in another part of the photos.) |

Thanks, R. Michael. Looking over Mr. Meredith's filmography on the ever reliable IMDB, I saw this title too as being the only one he released around that time, but could he be just visiting the set of something else? And what is "United Studios"? Did she mean Universal? _________________ www.louiedespres.com

United Studios was a studio on Melrose where various indie units like the Talmadges rented space. Famous Players-Lasky bought it out and it became the Paramount studios.
There's a nice picture and vintage article on the Silent Ladies and Gents site here: http://silentgents.com/xUnitedStudios.html

No worries! After looking at it a third time the costume looks so cheapy...like an extra guy. Rudy NEVER wore cheap costumes even when he was an extra...that kid went out and spent something like $3000 on suits for Four Horsemen even though he was only make $350 a week and wasnt leading the entire film.
So yes my official verdict: Not Rudy. |
Excellent. I shall change this when I got a second today. The majority has spoken! Thanks! _________________ www.louiedespres.com

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I should have done a better search on this as I have read a couple of other sources on United since I posted. _________________ www.louiedespres.com
