Re: THE LOST WORLD (1925) - new restoration?

My post probably wasn't clear enough... this restoration does, indeed, have a ton of new material, mostly at the plateau. There is a shot from the Allosaurus vs. Edmontosaurus scene I'd never seen before, showing the latter's flesh in the former's mouth with blood dripping out. I guess that was too ...

Re: THE LOST WORLD (1925) - new restoration?

This restoration was released on DVD only in France, back in October. I had no idea about it until a few weeks ago. It took a bit of automatic translation and sifting through different French websites to figure out that this DVD does, in fact, have a new restoration, since I couldn't find any Englis...

Re: BFI to release BIRTH OF A NATION in September

Looks amazing, for an original negative that was thought to be heavily worn. Gives me hope for other silent and early sound film negatives that have yet to resurface. Thanks for the screenshots, SilentsPlease! What is the basis for BFI/Photoplay's tinting scheme? Did they follow contemporary specif...

Re: BFI to release BIRTH OF A NATION in September

Would anyone lucky enough to have the disc be so kind as to upload a few screencaps? I'm very interested to see for myself how this looks. The music should be edited to work with the picture, not the other way around. Agreed. If an old recording of your favorite score doesn't fit, too bad. Give some...

Re: Non-24fps silents on Blu mastered at 1080p causing jitte

If 1080p is "ruining" silent Blu-rays, then why do people keep buying them? Why aren't more people complaining about it? That's an inconsistency I can't help but notice. And if a 20+ minute YouTube video and a 4-page thread on a specialty forum represent the minimum amount of explanation needed for ...

Looks really good. The fading is easy to overlook.

On a slightly related note, any particular reason why they applied so much DNR to This Is Cinerama? It was a delight to see that movie finally but everything looked like plastic.

Re: Indiegogo: Blackhawk Films DVDs On Demand from Flicker A

MOD DVDs are a huge step backward and honestly, no one likes them. I should have been clearer: no one likes them over pressed DVDs. But what if I do? You're making such generalized statements. I don't see what the problem is. If not having The Lost World on a pressed Blu-ray offends you that much, ...

Would the black-and-white ending have been an alternate take/angle, or simply a desaturation of the color version? Would this film have carried different tints and/or tones?

Re: William Gillette Sherlock Holmes film found

I hope they leave the French intertitles and tints in. A no-frills preservation of the only print known to exist is more preferable to me than digital intertitles that stick out like Lou Reed on a Metallica CD. If they know with great confidence how the original titles looked I can at least get behi...

Re: Eureka Entertainment to release Murnau's Faust on blu-ra

Wouldn't it be rad if they finally issued a copy of the MGM version which exists and is as, if not more, historically important than the domestic German version being prioritized and claimed as the "favored" cut? Does anyone else see the genetic fallacy here? I thought I read that Murnau put his fav...

Re: Which is the BEST Blu-Ray of "Phantom Of The Opera" to g

Is it that much to ask for a decent transfer of the Hampton source materials? The blown-up 16mm section in Brownlow's version shows that it doesn't look that bad. It's the dupes that are terrible. I don't care if the GEH print is higher quality and I have no nostalgic attachment to it... I'm sure ma...

Well it's hard for me to form an opinion about interlaced Blu-rays because I've watched most of them on a computer monitor that is a little smaller than HD resolution, so the resized picture tends to look something like this: http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/1968/ea5t.png" target="_blank" target="...
