Re: Theda Bara SALOME footage found

"Since like everybody else, I was full of silly prejudices I missed out on incredible things. Salome with Theda Bara was for sale. I thought, 'Fox, Theda Bara, American spectacle...who needs it?' Now the film is lost forever. It was probably quite good. From that point on, through trial and error, I...

Re: Amazon Removes Birth of a Nation.

Guess that Triumph of the Will , Der Ewige Jude and Jud Suss are low on the list of "unacceptable" as they are still available on Amazon. This seems ironic as it was BLM who defaced and tried to burn down a synagogue in L.A.'s Fairfax District after smashing windows, robbing and destroying many Jewi...

Re: Hollywood Reporter: Critic's Notebook: At a Time of Uncertainty, Comfort and Curiosity in Classic Films

Well, some people's "unwatchables" are other people's "not so bads" and even a few "beloved favorites". Call it comfort food, nostalgia, a glance at long extinct innocence or whatever you prefer. Re: The Loves of Pharaoh 1922

I own it and I love it. No glitches whatsoever on my copy as played on my all region Oppo. The problem I've heard from others about it is that the disc can slip and become loose in the large DVD-like box case during shipping. Didn't happen to me, but I've run into this problem with many other purcha...

Re: heard it thru the grapevine.....

Hopefully I'm not the only one, but the news I'd most love to hear through the grapevine would be a dream Cineteca Bologna/Cohen Collection blu-ray release of Pastrone's 1914 CABIRIA with the recovered original score as performed at the 2006 Cannes screening. I still can't believe this wasn't releas...

Re: THE COSSACKS (1928). TCM Premiere Tomorrow June 1st.

I caught the July 29th TCM screening and really loved the film. I do hope and pray that WB or the Archives might consider making it available at least as a MOD disc in the near future. The score was fabulous and did so much to enhance the viewing experience. I must say, I can't fathom the negative r...
