Re: The Great Buster: A Celebration

I saw this documentary recently and thought it was fine. I appreciated the archival footage of programs and commercials Buster was in that I had never seen before. If I HAD to complain about something, it was that I felt the film was a bit long. “The Great Buster” is like an audio/visual biography. ...

1945. No, not the Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi made back in '79. The newer foreign film spoken in Russian and Hungarian with subtitles. Stage to Chino (1940): George O'Brien is a postal inspector. He goes undercover to court pretty Virginia Vale, who owns a stage line, and to investigate Roy Barcroft, who owns a rival line and most of Chino, and is running a gold-shipping scam. It's a light-hearted RKO B western. Hobart Cavanaugh h...

He was a handsome guy. And his accent. Something a friend of mine described as a mix of New Yorker and English. I liked him in the early roles of None but the Lonely Heart and She Done Him Wrong. But, perhaps the only movie of his I'll watch again and again is The Bishops Wife. Dudley was such a swe...

Re: THE IRON HORSE (1924) BD coming from Twilight Time (11/20/18)

Twilight Time announced that they are putting the release of this title on hold pending the outcome of the Disney buy-out of Fox. That would be a disaster. With respect, wouldn't that be more a "frustration"? Leaving the designation "disaster" more for things like the fires out West, the flooding d...

Recently saw Ride The Thunder on Amazon Prime. It's a "docudrama" from 2015. Generally, I am not a fan of any movie or show from said genre. This one didn't change my mind, but the documentary portion of it was fine on it's own. It contains archival footage of Hanoi Jane and Donal Sutherland, etc., ...

I got to interview Morgan Neville about his documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? and he said the biggest problem he faced was having too much material. This was the third time I've watched Sunrise . Each time, I've come away liking it more than before. (I really wasn't all that impressed the first time!) For anyone interested, here is a short video on Cuphead's character references. After watching this and a few other videos, it's clear that the game isn't just influenced by 20's/30's animation; so much of its content borrowed from specific cartoons and characters of the period. http://www.youtube.c...

Star Wars The Last Jedi. Not that bad. I thought the previous movie, episode seven was better. Towards the end of this film, I was hoping the war, the saga, all of it would have ended. Not so. Oh well.

I take my hat off to places like this. There's still a lot out there that hasn't been restored onto DVD. In the past I have resorted to purchasing VHS tapes from eBay to see something I never saw before, released in 1994, or 1983, etc. I still have my VCR for circumstances such as these. It has serv...
