Re: Warner Archive DVD Collection Query (Sales)

OK thanks. So let me explain the spot I am in. Someone bought me "The Show Of Shows" (1929) off Amazon US as a present a few years ago as I asked for it on my Birthday List. However I received the severely abridged 1 hour 4 minute version! This was about 5 years ago? I watched it but didn't know it ...

Warner Archive DVD Collection Query (Sales)

Hi guys. I wonder if someone can help me? I need to know which physical stores in the USA actually SELL "The Warner Archive Collection" DVD's in traditional "Mall" / "Shop" / "over the counter" form?

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone suggest a £20 Classic Ebay Blu Ray?

I have a voucher credit of £10 from Ebay.co.uk to use up by end of 16/7/2018 (if I buy something from Ebay worth £20 as a minimum spend)... can anybody recommend a GOOD classic blu ray I can buy for about that price? Re: Dietrich-Von Sternberg in Hollywood Boxed Set Coming

Sternberg did often shoot in softish focus (through gauze etc.) but it may also be due to the relatively poor state of the Universal-owned Paramount library. I recall reading they copied all their Paramount titles in the 1950s and junked the original negatives/prints. That's why Arrow didn't release...

Ken Viewer, you actually walked out of "Around The World In 80 Days" ? Was that in 1956? Was it because it was just way TOO long? This is so funny!

The Conqueror (1956)

It seems like "The Conqueror" (1956) is available on blu-ray from a company called Umbrella ent.org (an Australian site). I was shocked to read IMDb [quote] that the movie was filmed not long after the atom-bomb tests in the Yucca Flats area of Nevada, where 11 bombs were tested; the Utah location w...

Re: Dietrich-Von Sternberg in Hollywood Boxed Set Coming

Wow -- A dream come true! I love each and every one of these Dietrich/Von Sternberg titles. Each one is a masterpiece, and their collaboration together truly brought out both of their entire careers best work in each other. Dietrich never again achieved such fine acting, and such fine vehicles until...

House Of Wax/Mystery Of Wax Museum 1933 Bluray query

So, I went to London yesterday and went shopping at FOPP -- (it's an excellent DVD and Bluray store with very reasonable prices). I was going to buy the two'fer "House Of Wax" (1953) set, on blu-ray, and in 3D, which includes the 1933 Technicolor original "The Mystery Of The Wax Museum". https://www...

Re: Rio Rita (1929)

105 minutes seems very long for a 1929 film -- i.e 1 hour 45 minutes. What was the original running time to " Rio Rita " then? (Unfortunately I know very little about " Rio Rita " because I dislike Wheeler and Woolsey so much -- they are most definitely "American-only" humourists -- their comedy jus...

Re: THE LAST COMMAND (1928) coming to Blu ray

An amazing film! I literally just finished watching it. I bought The Masters Of Cinema series Blu-Ray version from 2016. It has to be said also that Evelyn Brent also gives perhaps the best performance of her life in this film. Although it's a blu-ray, it is extremely grainy, and soft. Am I correct ...

Here is a fascinating link to Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell supposedly on the set of "Seventh Heaven" ? Saw the fantastic UCLA restoration at MOMA last year. Color looked great and did not notice any problems at all. So in other words it would be as follows: Frame 1 Frame 2 Frame 3 Frame 4 Frame 5 Frame 5 Again Frame 6 Frame 7 Frame 8 Frame 9...

Re: Three Stooges in color in 1938

Was that a professional film? Or amateur? The reason I ask is because one can see all of the splices as if they've been done by hand on a splicing machine with glue etc. A bit like an old 8mm cine film from someone's home collection. Plus there is no talking. It is silent (apart from the music).
