Re: Second Viewings....

The problem of other people not "getting" a film that you thought was great is a whole 'nother problem, but your experience with Darby O'Gill reminded me of the time when, after seeing "Picnic at Hanging Rock" for the first time, I dragged a bunch of my friends to see it. Some of them are still repr...

Re: Second Viewings....

The movie "Brazil." Came out in the 1980s--when I first saw it, it seemed to be fascinatingly complex, with all sorts of political motifs woven in with hints of incest, etc. Then I saw it again and tried to keep track of how all the different themes linked together and it was just like toilet paper ...

Re: Revisiting Lawrence Tibbett

Just a couple more comments--yes, I have read "Dear Rogue" which has that awful mug shot of Tibbett when he was picked up for drunk driving in the 1950s, but also a photo of Tibbett fit and healthy, in his 20s, and . . . wait for it . . . in the nude . . . though the photo is a discreet rear shot, f...

Re: Revisiting Lawrence Tibbett

I was looking for information about the Vitaphone opera shorts (search topic on this website for this important project), found the thread about Lawrence Tibbett and joined Nitrateville just for the purpose of contributing . . . Just because Tibbett had problems with alcoholism doesn't mean opera fa...
